haven't seen this discussed for stock suspension daks.

on your 2-wheel drive stock to semi-stock dak, when did you replace the shocks, and with what?

OE shocks are terrible on every new vehicle regardless of brand. Change them as soon as possible. I'm sure someone will flame me for this and say how much they suck or are a communist company, but I've had good luck with Monroe as a good long lasting shock. I have Monroe Reflex on now and I love them. The variable damping is great.

Monroe Sensi-Trac works for me, a premium version of the Reflex that 'wolf has.

Chris is right, the Reflex is Monroe's top shock.

I read many of the shock threads on this board and I was still unsure if shocks would make any difference. I had pretty bad bump steer, and it was even starting to bounce going over speedbumps with only 10k miles. I went the cadillac route and got Billstein's. It's unfair to say their stiff, firmer than stock is a better phrase. Shocks will be the VERY FIRST thing I ever do in the future. No more bump steer, much better control, better cornering, etc. They're wonderful. Pricey yes, but i can say the price is worth it based on the difference they make.

I needed to replace the shocks on my 00 CC and went with CarQuest Bruiser shocks, think they are made by Monroe. I wouldn't recommend these shocks since I think they react like the stock shocks. I should have spent the extra money and went with Rancho's, Bilsten's or Edelbrock's.

I'v had the Bruisers on the truck for about 50K and the 2 rear shocks pushed off the bushings, WTF! Sounded like there was a mouse in the back with the shocks rubbing on the shock mounts. If Carquest didn't replace the shocks I would have upgraded to a different brand.

I put Bilsteins on and they were a very noticable difference and improvement. Worth the little extra scratch definitly.

I got KYBs Monomax shocks. Similiar to Edelbrocks and a little cheaper. Good ride and way better than OEM shocks.

I got my Reflex's at Napa. I think they are $40-something apiece. I actually went there to get the sensa-tracs, but they were out so they gave me the Reflex's at the same price. I'm really glad I got them. They're worth the extra $10 for the variable damping. Makes a huge difference in cornering(body lean). For off-road, the Bilstein's and Rancho's are prolly better, but for road use the Monroe's rule. They're not harsh at all.

At 25K I replaced the OEM shocks with what I consider the best all around shocks available - Bilstien.

I bought KYB Monomax through TireRack. Around $190 shipped for all 4. Very nice improvement on 2WD. They are also listed on E-bay for $140-150, but I don't know the shipping cost.

One thing I have noticed is that on all the higher end brand shocks, is that there is not that much difference between brands just price and personal preference other than basic mechanical and chemical differences, of course.

Gabe, the difference with a high end shock, such as Bilstein, is the excellent damping provided and the fact you will NEVER have to replace them - unless you race offroad, of course.

My driveway is bad enough to count as an offroad course. Does that count? And that isn't a joke. My driveway has been notorious for eating transmissions and engines for breakfast.
