I'm replacing my rotors and pads in the next week or so. I know I'm going to use the Hawk HPS pads but I'm unsure of what rotors to get. I dont care about having drilled or vented rotors as I dont road race my truck. Just a nice, lasting, reliable set of rotors that arent prone to warping like my stockers have been. I appreciate any help or feedback you guys can give me, good or bad. Thanks alot. Also a question, does the R/T have larger diameter rotors than the Sport or SLT trucks?

I hope this helps in your decision.

The main cause for rotor warpage is heat. Excessive heat causes metal to warp. Lessening the heat buildup between the pads and rotors are the key to longevity. If the pads are a harder material, more heat is generated. Softer material, less heat. And yes, if the rotors are thin that won't help. If you are conviced the HAWK HPS pads are what you are going to use then see what they recommend as a compatible rotor.

2002 QC 4x4 Sport Plus, 4.7L, auto, Patriot Blue, Tire & Handling group,
Heavy Duty Service group, Leer cap w/out windows, Mopar Step bars and roof rack, Rhino liner in bed and on step bars, Pace Edwards Power Tailgate lock
3.55 rear, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, all possible fluids are AMSOIL

Improper torquing of lug nuts can cause warping too.

Also I've been searching through rotor posts and this is obviously a common problem. Sounds like Dodge just gave our trucks undersized rotors. Anyways with the heat build up it seems that going to a vented rotor like powerstop seems to be the way to go. Does anyone have any experiences or recommendations they'd like to share? I'd like to get some feedback before I sink the money into some good rotors. Also I'm looking at going to performance friction pads instead of the Hawks. Not sure yet but I'm looking into it. I'm also going to put some higher performance shoes on the rear to take some of the braking effort away from the fronts.

less than 7000 miles and my Powerslot front rotors warped. Running with the Hawk pads they recommend also.
Had them turned..... warped again soon after.

?????
Why can't anyone make stuff that works?

I'm looking at powerstop, different company....I think. Summit carries them for about $93 a piece. At that price they better be good.

From what I have seen over the years the problem isn't actually the rotors, but the pads. It seems like ever since they quit using asbestos in the pads this has become a problem. I suggest going to a quality parts store like Carquest or NAPA and getting the "rotor friendly" non-metallic pads. The Carquest ones are guaranteed not to squeal. This may be a long shot, but maybe Canada or somewhere else doesn't have the same stupid environmental laws that we do and you can get the old type "organic" pads there via mail order.

Also, something to think about .... the rear brake adjusters on the DAK's are known to frequently not operate properly, thus putting an undue greater load on the front brakes. Might wanna check this out and make sure the rear adjusters are working properly.

I have 2003 with 34000 on it. The four wheel disks were standard on it and I've had no problems and they will last quite a bit longer. Are the four wheel set ups defeating the problem?

Yes, I did the SSB rear disc conversion and never had warped fronts again did the convert at 25000 and still going strong at 65000. Not to mention better stops and shorter stops with the rear disc.

Is there a way to adjust the rear brakes without using the reverse and brake method? This doesn't seen to work for me. I know there is a little slot on the back of the drum, but how do you use it? Thanks

I didnt know the newer daks came with rear discs. Is it difficult to do a OEM swapout of brake systems between say a 2000 and a 2003?

Will the SSB conversion fit with the stock 15" wheels? I noticed you were running R/T wheels.

No , Canada does not have the "old " pads
As others said , try the non-metallic pads .
they may not last as long , but at least they
seem easier on the rotors..

95 Dak stan/cab 3.9l/auto w/O/D
mostly still stock , but checking out larry's
mods..
