Subject: Spark plug gap IP: Logged
Message: Is it possible to squeeze a few more mpg's by closing up the gap in the plugs a little, without sacrificing much hp. I have the thirsty 5.9L and am getting 12 mpg. The only enhancement I have made so far is adding a K&N air filter. I am thinking about adding a dual exhaust, as I'm told this would be more efficient and give me a little better gas mileage.

Message: narrowing the gap gives a colder weaker spark, you want a large spark to increase the temp of the initial flame in the chamber not a smaller one. however too large of a gap can result in no spark at all so don't change it littler at all and make it up to .020 larger, but the caveat here is that you need to inspect the plugs more often to make sure the gap does not get too big.
