Subject: Front caliper pins - what size wrench?

Did upper ball joints today, planning on brakes tomorrow. Did a search and found an equal number of posts - some saying 7mm hex, 8mm hex, and T45 Torx - which is it? (guess I'll find out tomorrow)

trust me...it's a T-45....TRUST MY FRIEND....TRUST!!! T-45!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have all the metric and SAE allens..guess what? None of them would fit just right. I researched it and found out it was a Torx T-45. Bought a set and guess what? FITS PERFECT...I hate to be crass, but don't listen to the people telling you that it is a hex. I just did the brakes about 10 days ago. T-45.

Uhhh...hate to cause confusion here, but mine was 7 MM hex. I have a 99 4X4. No hex key set I saw has a 7mm in it, I had to buy it from an auto parts store. They sold it as a "caliper pin tool" or something like that. It's basically a 7mm hex end on a 3/8" drive to use on a ratchet. BE CAREFUL when re-installing the pins, they are very easy to cross thread in the steering knuckle. I actually cross threaded one of mine, but I guess due to divine intervention or something it threaded in after a few hours of trying, and still holds tight.

WardenJ is right for my truck too. I have a 2001 4x2 and i had to go buy a 7MM because they don't give you one in any set of allens i bought.

And mine turned out to be - that's right, you guessed it - 7mm hex. Thanks to all for helping settle this hotly contested issue - brake mechanics everywhere can sleep peacefully tonight.

I just did mine 3/21. The pins have a 7MM hex head allen in them. But, a T-45 Torx socket will work also. They BOTH fit and will work. I used the T-45, but tried the 7MM allen just for the heck of it. You can use either.

I have a 2001 dodge dakota 3.9 4x4 I just had to
change the brakes & rotors yesterday. It however
was the *****(T-45)***** I got on here because i
wasnt sure what it was because it had the rubber
boot covering it so i went and got a 7mm and it
was wrong on my truck. Had to run to advance auto
parts to get the t-45. So i guess, maybe they used
both from the facotry? Hope this might help
someone

My 2001 Dodge Dakota sport two-wheel drive 3.9 V6
is a hex head and I couldn't get any size Allen to
fit it may depend on where these vehicles are
manufactured as to which one they have or even the
month of the year that manufactured
