While looking at all the differnt filter
replacements out there for the intakes, like K&n,
airforce one, air raid, and mopar
performance.....they all use the cone style
filters with these z-tubes or short tubes with the
original black box on top of the engine. Now i am
curious as to what might happen if you take all
the air intake stuff out on the 4.7 l engine and
instead of replacing it with all tubes and all,
why not use just a short tube and a connector with
the cone filter and put it right up in front of
the intake and on top of the motor....I know you
will get some hot air there from the motor but do
you think you might get the same results?!?? If
you can't still imagine what i am saying look at
some of the replacements for like the corvette
motors with fuel injuections!!!! something
simialr as that. I think it would work, esp if you
had a different hood like a ram air. Tell what you
think!!!!?!??

On the cold-air hoods, as long as you can isolate the air filter from the heat from the engine, it'll work rather well. (Basically building an enclosed airbox around the filter with only the opening to the hood.)

On the regular intake tubes, if you can get the air filter as far away from the engine heat (close to the front or fender of the truck) you can gain some HP from just the cooler air. Adding a high-flow filter will help out anyways.
