Subject: Should I be driving my truck!?! IP: Logged
Message: I am suspecting my ball joints are bad, but to be sure I went out and jacked the truck up to check for play. I jacked it up from the lower control arm and rocked the tire in and out (pushing on the top and pulling from the bottom). The left side had a little bit of play, but the right has noticable play (certainly more than the left), especially when i push in on the top. I have no way of measuring it though so i can't tell you what the numbers are. My front end squeaks like mad when I am driving, but I thought it was coming from the left (even though the right seems worse).
Is any play allowed in the tires when being subjected to these tests, or is it dangerous to be driving my truck until I replace the joints?
Thanks!!

Message: I suggest parking it until they get replaced.
If you drive it, I would be very careful.
It is entirly possible that the ball joints could seperate while driving, and the whole tire will come off which would = a bad accident.
