Subject: Fog Light Tricks on 1998 IP: Logged
Message: OK, so I've seen the posting about jumpering two wires on the CTM to make the Fogs stay on with the Hi-Beams... I have two problems:
1. Where is the CTM on a '98? I didn't find it under the drivers-side kick panel
2. is there a way to make the Fogs come on with the ignition *IF* the fog light button is pressed "IN"?
Sort of like DRLs? That is to say, regardless of whether the Park/Head knob is pulled out, and regardless whether the HI's are on or off?
Thanks!

Message: PLarkinJr,
I have read a few of the posts about fogs and high beams and have not tried it yet myself but intend to.
If I understand you correctly you want the fogs to turn on when the ignition is on and still have the factory switch as a manual override.
I am not sure how to accomplish this task with the current wireing but you could very easily re-wire it yourself. All you need is a relay and a key on power source. Run constand power from the battery (inline fuse) to the relay then to the lights. The relay will also have a switch leg. You then wire the switch leg to a key on power source, (trouble light and fuse pannel). then wire your current factory switch inline with the switch leg to provide and override.
The way it works is power is hot to the relay direct from the battery but does not continue unless the switch leg is hot. you then have put a switch to override (when you are making out with the prom queen and listening to the radio).
I wired driving lights similar to this and mounted them on my rear bumper, they turn on only when I am in reverse. It was very easy and only took about an hour taking my time. (most of that time was running wire all the way back to the lights from the battery.
I am guessing that you are looking for a magical paperclip placement solution that will use all of the oem wireing. It may be possible, but I would recomend leaving all of the original wiring so that it can be easily put back to stock.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Message: i posted this once but it dissappeared...
i'm not sure if its the same for 98 but on my 99 i cracked open the dashboard switch an found out how it turns on the fog lights. you can try permanently connecting the two foglight connectors. this will turn on the fog lights but i'm not sure if they will turn off when you turn the lights off though. its something to try.

Message: Yeah, paperclip solution is kind of what I'm looking for... easiest way to Revert to Stock. I guess the worst part is that I cannot even find the Central Timer Module on my truck. Nothing behind the drivers' side kick panel as stated in the instructions to make them stay on with HI-BEAMs. If I could find that, maybe I could back probe for a "Hot while ON" line and tie that into the feed to the Fog Light Relay. Thanks Though! Any other ideas?
