Message: Why don't you want to use RTV? It's great and seals better and lasts longer than a gasket.

Message: RTV is the best way to go, bit messy at times but the best way to go. I have heard nothing but great things about Dodges RVT, supposed to be the best out there. Little pricy but the best.

Message: I actually called the dealer (which is what some should consider
doing once in a while to find things out about their truck) and
they said there is no gasket for my 99 it's just silicone sealant.
This probably applies to the 97s and up, maybe more. Call and
find out, have your VIN handy.

Message: the reason i dont want to use rtv is because when i change my diff fluid again later on i dont want to deal with scraping the rtv off, i heard its a pain, id rather just replace the gasket.

Message: Since there is no gasket I doubt anyone makes one. You can
however buy a roll of gasket material and cut out your own
gasket. Just use the cover as a template.

Message: I bought an auburn posi from randysringandpinion.com and it came with a gasket! I didn't use it, because I hate gaskets, but I threw it away, or I would give it to you! try getting ahold of them, maybe they sell them separately.

Message: you are going to have to scrape off the gasket in the future anyway...rtv is just easier to remove than a baked on paper gasket.

Just scrap it and do what you're told.

Message: If your still looking for a gasket for your dak, ask any parts store to look under a different vehicle. For example, if you have a 9.25 dif, have them look for the gasket listed under a 1990 dodge full size with a 318. I bet they will have a gasket listed. Dodge has been using the same difs for years. Any place that sells Felpro gaskets should be able to help you out.

Message: It's realy easy to make your own gasket. Juat spray some copper seal on the front of the differential. Cut out about a 1 square foot sheet of gasket material and stick it to the differential. Then take a ballpeen hammer and begin pecking the circumfrence of the differential opening. This will cut the paper to an exact fit. Use the ball end of the ball peen to peck out the bolt holes. It takes about 10 minutes and 50 cents to do it yourself. Then dig out all the paper holes out of the threads and bolt the cover on. I buy the rubber imprgnated fiber paper. It seals better. The paper has a tendency to become soaked and then it squishes out allowing the oil to leak. Hmmm.. Silicone would be easier.
