Subject: Fog lights don't work IP: Logged
Message: i have a 1999 Dak 5.2 (if that matters). i just bought it last week. the problem is... the fog lights wont come on. i've checked the bulbs, they look fine. i've checked the fuse and its good.
i pull on the light switch and nothing. the little indicator on the switch pannel doesn't come on either.
any suggestions as to what else to check? i'd hate to take it to the dealer and fork out $100 for them to just plug something in.

Message: did you check the fuse under the hood? a lot of people don't know it's there... next thing, use a voltage meter on the wires when the power's on to make sure they're getting juice.... also make sure they're isolated, a good way to do this is to un-bolt them from the mounts, let them hang and see if they work.

Message: yes, i checked the fuse under the hood. its good.
i was also wondering if possibly the foglight relay might be bad. i took a look at it and it seemed alright, as good as a visual inspection can tell (removed it and shook it, no rattling).
i can try isolating the lights and see if they work. thanks.
btw: they're factory installed lights on my Dak Sport.

Message: i fixed it! yes, it was the switch but you don't need to buy a complete new one (at least in my case).
i pulled the switch and took it apart. it ends up there's a small brass connector that attaches to the end of the signal knob. when the knob is pulled this connector makes the connection that turns on the fog lights.
this connector had come off the end and i just needed to be reattached. its kinda of tricky to reattach correctly but with some "reverse engineering" i figured it out and my fog lights work as they should. YEA!
if anyone is interested in more details just let me know. i'm a happy camper again.

Message: JK: what's seems to be the problem?
fog lights don't work? narrowed the problem down to the switch? have you removed the switch?

Message: I found it. Inside the switch the contact fell off from the plastic part. Good ol' crazy glue should work. Thanks

Message: yeah... its pretty easy. there's a way to do it without superglue. if you gently bend the clip backwards the opening will get wide enough for it to slide onto the little plastic tip. then you just bend it back and the clip pinches down on the tip to keep it in place.
although super glue will work just as well. :)

Message: dTas: how hard was it to remove the switch? does the entire dash have to come off? i recently purchased a 99 dakota r/t and am experiencing the same problem.
