 Subject: Trailer Brake Harness

I was looking at my truck manual and I noticed they provided a 4-way electric brake connector harness. Now is there a brake controller all ready on my truck, or do I have to install an aftermarket one? (I have all the tow package, cooling, and stuff.) The reason I ask is if the truck has one from the factory how do I engage it? I didn't see much about it in the manual.

You must add an aftermarket brake controller. I installed one on my '01 QC w/ factory towing about a month ago. It was very easy. The hardest part was deciding where to mount the controller. I put mine between the park brake and hood release.
Important tip: Make sure you have the brake controller pigtail (harness) and 7/4 pin adapter that comes with the factory towing. It should be in the glove box. Mine was missing. The dealer provided a replacement promptly when I noticed it was missing.
The wires on the pigtail are well marked and were easy to match up with the wiring diagram provided with the brake controller. The pigtail connects to a blue connector under the dash above the park brake.
I would suggest one of the newer electronic brake controllers. They are smaller and easier to adjust than the older pendulum style.

Thanks a lot. Yeah, I do have that pigtail, but I've read on the internet they sell brake-controllers for certain vehicles such as Dakotas so you don't need to use DC's pigtail connector... I guess they've done that step all ready.
