Message: I've got it! The deer was shot during hunting season & strapped to the roof to transport home. Notice the landscape - definitely autumn. On the way home, a telephone pole got spooked and jumped off the overpass and landed on the Durango...
Seriously, though, if a tree or pole fell on it, why is only the roof & windshield caved in, and not in a linear way?

Message: Hey rooster' seeing that you are a body man you should know that there is no structural ingegrity to the front leading edge of the roof!!! The strength comes from the windshield posts, and other roof supports, which are supported by the a, and b pillars. How high is your average overpass? we'll say 25 foot. If a deer weighing 150-ish pounds were to fall 25 feet, it would be falling at approx. 45 mph. A 150 lb 45 mph falling object is gonna do some damage!!! Ever jump on a roof of a car? Go do it. Get on the roof, and jump up 2 feet coming down with all of your weight, You'll be amazed at how far that roof will collapse. maybe it was a high overpass...say 35-40 feet. That would put the deers speed around 55-60 mph. You guys will believe a guy who SAYS his truck runs 11 sec 1/4 mile times, but has no slip to prove it, but when someone shows you the proof of an accident you question it? do you really think someone put the deer through the windshield, then cut the stomach lining to make the guts fall? Or do you think the guts were splattered all over the road, and someone scooped them all up, put the deer through the windshield without getting blood on anything? Come on guys the facts are right here!!! Sorry for the long post-

Message: Nevermind what I said before. Your right dirt, it was a different Durango/Deer accident. I sent the pic to my dad and he told me that wasn't the one. Felt like an ass, sorry about that. The one that happened in Houghton Lake was very similar to this one, he said just not as much damage.

Message: Here's another problem.....
The deer went rhough the passenger side of the windshield. Either the deer went through the windshield or it hit the roof. It can't do both. Something clearly landed on top of the roof (like the truck itself).
Here's another problem....
The steering wheel is bashed severely. It is no longer round. The top side of it has been shoved down and slightly to the left side. How did the deer go through the passenger side of the windshield and bend the steering wheel at the same time?
Here's another problem........
The deer supposedly fell off the overpass. Look how far the overpass is behind the Durango. Did the driver drive that far with that much damage to the steering wheel? How did the driver keep control of the vehicle? For something to have hit the steering wheel hard enough to do that much damage would have ripped it out of your hands. You would have consequently lost control of the vehicle.
Here's another problem.....
The vehicle had to have been traveling pretty fast for the passenger side front door post to have been completely shoved down into the passenger seat. If the vehicle was traveling that fast then there would be no dirt or fur sitting on top of the vehicle.
Conclusion:
The deer probably did go through the windshield. As a result, the driver lost control of the vehicle and flipped it. That is where all the damage to the roof came from and where all the dirt came from.

Message: 1) Looks to me like the roof AND windshield both caved downward from a topside impact.
2) The roof caving alone would have been enough to wreck the steering wheel.
3) Even if the driver slammed on the brakes immediately the 2 ton+ Durango at highway speeds would still take 120-140 feet to stop - doesn't look too much farther than that from the overpass. Also, the roof collapsing on the wheel could likely have prevented it from turning - front wheel caster does the rest.
4) Dry fur wouldn't stick, but bloody fur?
And #5) If the vehicle was rolled, why is the rear roof rack intact?

Message: Yeah, 99dak has a clue, now the rest of you need one! The fenders arent smashed down, the side windows arent scratched, the PAINT isn't scratched, there is no dirt or mud on the rims (like there ALWAYS is when someone rolls a vehicle) Do you people live near a body shop? Ever see a roll over? They are never just the roof...never. This durango was NOT rolled over. It was an impact from straight above! Anyone who thinks I am wrong can go dive off an overpass onto a highway speed durango. Hell throw a big pumpkin off a bridge, and see what it does! It weighs what maybe 30 lbs? Watch what it does to a 65-70 mph durango!!! I saw an s-10 blazer that hit a deer that was jumping across the road, it hit with the roof and windshield. the lady was going 45. It cleaned the roof completely off the truck. I saw a cop car that hit a horses head. Yes just the head! The horse was standing on the side of the road with its head in the road. The cop car hit it at 55 and took out the roof, windshield, both passenger side doors, the quarter panel, back window, and all roof supports on the pass. side!!!!! Completely totaled a 2 week old car. Just the head, what if he hit the horse? Weird sh!t happens in crashes! saw a tahoe that hit a cow, We found the headlight in the air cleaner!!! how does this stuff happen? we dont know, but it does. sorry about this long ass post, but if you guys would just look at the facts, I mean god damn they are right there!!!!!

Message: Actually what really happened is somebody took a perfectly good Durango and dropped a backhoe bucket on it (that's obviously where the dirt came from), then threw in a deer and photographed it just to create arguments on Dodge truck forums.

Message: I know this is a stale post, but if you're getting a kick out of all the theories flying around, I have a fairly mundane one...
The brown stuff is deer vomit, expelled on impact sort of like jerking a sock full of yuck backwards. The odd damage pattern was caused by the deer obviously being airborne (attempting to hurdle the Durango), getting knocked both up and forward, and then as the driver applied brakes, the deer came down neatly into the freshly broken windshield after executing a perfect half-gainer with a twist--just after being cue-balled upwards by the impact. The result was a rather stunned, newly hungry, "ass hood ornament" looking for a pack of crackers in the dash. Or at least that's the way I'd tell it...
