Subject: Drag Radials for 16x8 rims IP: Logged
Message: Anyone on here run DOT Street Slicks or Drag Radials? I will be getting the 16x8 rims with the 255/65/16 tires on my Dakota 4.7L 5 speed when I order it. I want to keep the 255/65/16's on the front but I want a slightly taller DOT drag tire on the back. I looked at The MT Street ET's. They had a 26x10.50x16. Would this be a little taller than the 255/65/16? I know it would be wider. Just tell me what ya'll use and prefer. I just need something to hook that 5 speed!

Message: The Tires youi will get on your truck 255/65/16s are Overall height 29.05" (737.90mm). Why would you want a taller tire for the strip. i thought the taller the tire the higher gear ratio you would want a smaller tire right.

Message: Go to http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html and enter your stock tire size to see what your options are. My truck came with 215/75/15's, which are about 28" tall, and I'm now running 275/60/15 BFG Comp T/A Drag Radials, which are about the same hight, so no change in my gearing. Dont forget the tubes for those M/T's! If you plan on driving around town on them, I would recommend the BFG's.

Message: Ok I checked on the BFG's and the only thing the Comp T/A Drag Radial comes in for a 16" rim are 255/50/16's. This is A LOT smaller than the stock 255/65/16. I would have to change all 4 tires and put just regular 255/50/16's on the front. I think this might make the truck look bad. Might be to much wheelwell. I like low profile tires, but only when the vehicle is lowered and their not a foot of wheelwell space. The 255/50/16 would also throw the speedo off bad. Anyone else know of a good drag radial that is close to the height of the stock 255/65/16?
