Subject: What is a good HD aftermarket clutch? IP: Logged
Message: I have been having some issues as of late getting into first and reverse. I took it to the dealer only to have some moron that could not drive a stick try and trouble shoot my problem. This guy started in second and then shifted to third at about 10 mph! After he drove around a little slipping between 3rd and 4th at about 20mph I asked him if he knew what he supposed to be trouble shooting. I explained to him that I was having intermittent issues getting into first and reverse from a complete stop. He shifted into first from a stop and said everything was fine. I then explained what intermittent meant, and he just looked at me blankly. I knew better than to take it to the dealer anyway but can it get any worse. Now I am thinking of just replacing the clutch with something a little more heavy duty. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good HD clutch?
BTW 4.7 quad 5 speed with 4:10 rear-end.
If anyone has any other possible caused let me know, seems to be on a cold engine 1st and reverse tend to be a little more stubborn than they used to be. I have been trying to use third to sync 1st (thanks texas todd) but that only helps about half of the time. With about 25,000 miles I can’t believe it’s the clutch but maybe it is.
Thanks all.

Message: Try checking your clutch master and slave cylinder. If memory serves, that particular one is a flud system. Look under the hood and find the fluid for the clutch, if low, then check for leaks. You may have to actually take them off to inspect the seals on the fronts. Just my thoughts on a clutch that only has 25k.

Message: Thanks Zosoair, I was planning on washing my air cleaner tonight and was going to check fluid levels aswell. If no fluid leaks then you think it could be the clutch this early? I would just hate to replace the clutch and see no improvement.

Message: Fluids look fine, I have only felt it slip one time and that before it was completely engaged.
not sure what else could be wrong. If anyone else has any suggestions please let me know.
Thanks for the clutch plug sharpsl I will check them out.
Has anyone done a clutch replacement? is it worth my money to do myself, or is it worth my time to pay a pro?

Message: Clutch is on hold for now...
Finaly talked to real mechanic. He said the gear oil is extra thick in the cold and would cause this issue. He also said a bearing in the tranny could be the cause (not letting the tranny stop spinning). At least I know it not going to grenade on me at any moment.
Thanks for the replies and good luck with your batches of lemmonaid.
