Alright, yes, I have been posting a lot about ehxaust systems lately. It all started today when my brother drove away in my 94 V6, I WAS NOT IMPRESSED! It has a cheap glasspack with dual exits and sounds like someone with a bad case of gas! Has anyone tried the American Thunder kit made by Flowmaster? I kind of want to get more power from idle up to around 5000 RPM's, would the flowmasters be better at that than my current set up? What muffler would be best?

I had glasspacks on my 95 V6 and i didn't like the way they sounded either. I now have a 2-chamber flowmaster dumped before the axle. It sounds ALOT better and performance picked up a little. I've had people ask me if it's a V8. Some peope use the dynomax and gibson but i've never heard them before. I definently like my flowmaster, very deep sound. Good luck

I have the Gibson Dual Catback....gives my 6-banger a nice deep tone and doesn't make the popping noise from Flowmasters...I also heard a 98 V6 the other day with a dynomax muffler on it...that had a nice sound to it too...

I was looking at the dynomax single pipe in a Summit catolog. They give you two mufflers to choose from and it's about half the price of the Flowmaster, I might go with the single for the sleeper look even though the sound might give it away. Anybody know the pipe diameter of the dynomax?

There's too many different models/styles of the Dynomax (and Flowmaster at that) to say which one has what pipe size.

For the factory pipes, a 2.5" IN/OUT will work. If you're wanting that Dual Tip look...a 2.5" IN/2.5" Dual OUT will work well also.

I've noticed when I have my truck gunned it always shifts at about 5000 RPM's and drops down to about 3000 RPM's when it shifts. In this case would duals make more power due to more diameter pipe (2.25 + 2.25 = 4.50 Vs. 2.5 single) and would single make better low end power due to less back pressure drop, but suffer in the high end? Obviously I'm letting this get way over my head.

I suppose I just want a system that makes the MOST HP & torque from idle all the way to 5000 RPM's , and won't loose too much backpressure that my gas mileage will drop. I all ready have duals with a glasspack and I lost a lot of low end power. I'm getting ready to trash it this spring and replace it with a Dynomax single with 2.5" in/out or a American Thunder flowmaster with 2.5" in/ 2" or 2.5" dual out. I don't care about sound and looks, I want tire squaking brute power!

Well the reason why I asked is b/c it depends on the series for the sound ya want. Like a Flowmaster series 40 is loud and sounds great in a v-8, deeEEEp tone. I had a series 70 on my F150 v-6 and it was not that loud at all.

I was just cerious

Thanks

MY FATHER HAS A AMERICAN THUNDER 3" DUAL OUT WITH H PIPE ON HIS 71 CHEVELLE 454 SS . IT ACTUALLY SOUNDED BETTER THAN OPEN HEADERS. I REPLACED THE STOCK MUFFLER ON MY 92 CAMARO WITH A 80 SERIES FLOWMASTER. I LOVE THE WAY IT SOUNDS. I HAVE GAINED HORSEPOWER THROUGH THE ENTIRE POWERBAND, I HAVE ALSO INCREASED FUEL ECONOMY (BUT ONLY WHEN I'M NOT STANDING ON IT.
SECONDLY, A DUAL OUT ON A V6 FROM THE CAT BACK IS POINTLESS. THE CONVERTER IS GOING TO BE YOUR TIGH SPOT IN THE SYSTEM NO MATTER IF YOU PUT FOUR PIPES OUT OF IT. THE PEOPLE AT FLOWMASTER KNOW THIERS STUFF SO GO WITH ONE MUFFLER, CHOOSE THE SERIES YOU WANT FOR THE SOUND, AND GO WITH THE STOCK PIPE SIZE. GOOD LUCK.

I think Mangoflow is the way to go if you want increased Hp and and a bit more tourqe. Also 4wheeler mag did a artical on a V10 powered Ram on installing a Maganflow exaust system. The Fuel Econ. went up from 11 Mph to 13 MPg.
