Looks like you were right...FORD doesn't learn from its mistakes.....

Message: no, they didnt learn, thats why they have cars faster than our mopars, and trucks faster than ours. the stock lightning with 380 horse is keeping up with, or BEATING our srt-10. do you guys see a problem with this? 500 hp vs 380 hp. guess we made ours a LITTLE too heavy huh? true tire spin is a huge problem, but why not gear that tranny down a little bit? who cares if it goes 154 and the lightning goes 147? i dont, I want to be in front at the end of the 1/4 mile. guess we should suck out the 4.10's and put in some 4.88's. sorry about the ranting, but i was gonna buy one till i found out that i could get a lightning about 15'000 cheaper and buy a 35 dollar pulley and make it faster than the srt-10 who knew that our bad ass truck would be a flop?

Message: Hay no sheet speed is not everything.. If you
want more speed out of yours, put a jet engine in.
I for one would love to give up more speed for
better mileage. With gas prices going out of site,
it's gonna force me to park my 02 Dak 4X4 4.7
again this spring/summer season and begin to drive
my stored 79 AMC six banger. I waxed up the Dak,
covered it and it was not driven all last summer.
Last trip I took with my Dak I got 13.8 MPG. Yes,
I was driving 70 - 75 on Michigan 23 and 75. So
you guys that claim you're getter better mileage
than that, it's very hard to believe.
Tires faults? You REALLY think big business cares
how many people get killed with faulty tires?
They will find every excuse in the world to put
the blame on the user. It's ALL about money!

Message: I'm pretty sure Firestone cares. This may put them out of business. The last quality control issue with them almost did.

Message: No, Dodge/Chrysler typically uses Goodyears. Goodyear makes some very good tires, but the good ones are exspensive. Goodyear also makes some cheap tires. Unfortunately, the cheap ones are what DC normally puts on their cars and trucks and they aren't much better than the Firestones. I've had 2 blow outs in the last 3 years with the factory Goodyears that came on my 2001 and 2002 Dakotas.
The only tire I have owned that gave me ZERO problems was Yokahomas. They are also the only tires I've ever owned that lasted over 40,000 miles.

Message: My wife had good luck with her factory tires, I finely broke one off-road at 35,000 miles.
I really doubt Firestone/Bridgestone will go out of business no matter what they do. There are so many stupid people that they don't care. All I know is that the rest of the country must have less stupid people because they have moved here To Sin City.

Message: ford "used" to have an exclusive (or almost exclusive) arrangement with firestone for tires for all domestic ford products during manufacture of the cars (& trucks). the firestone wilderness (?) tires that failed on the explorers eventually severed this relationship. ford blamed firestone for designing & building a bad tire & firestone blamed ford for failing to follow firestones inflation recommendations for the tires (ford wanted them at a lower pressure for comfort - firestone wanted them higher for durability).
i understand the exclusive relationship officially died with the firestone tire recall. i'm not sure why the steeltex tires were still used on the large ford trucks. perhaps because these had already beed designed in to the last design update of the trucks & ford elected not to shop for new suppliers. or not to pay the engineering development costs for a suitable tire for OEM use.
you'll find that most manufacturer's have a somewhat exclusive relationship with suppliers. particularly tires. the excuse is lower cost if you purchase exclusively in large buys. i'm not sure i believe it, but that's the excuse.
i think that you'll find tires from other manufacturers on various ford cars & trucks now that the previous relationship has been severed.
