Message: I have been doing a little research on brake pads lately. My money is on the Hawk pads. If you go to tirerack.com and put in brakes they have a few with some nice paragraphs explaining the application. I think you find enough info there to make a good decision. (I want performance breaking and am willing to live with dust and noise.) It seems you have give something up to gain something. better stopping = more dust/noise
Good luck in your searching, and take some 60-0 stops before and after the swap and keep us posted.

Message: i also had to replace front pads at around 50K miles. this seemed extremely early to me as well. i usually get to 80 - 90K miles before replacing pads. it may have to do with the weight of the truck, but its no heavier than a full size truck. my previous trucks routinely got over 80K miles before needing pads. i suspect its the diameter of the discs. they may be a little undersized for the truck.
anyway.... i use the NAPA best grade pads. i can't remember what they're called (NAPA gold maybe?). these have beveled leading and trailing edges, good solid backing plates, and i've never had a pair squeel. they're not "performance" pads. just decent pads for every day commuting type driving.
