Subject: Laminated glass... IP: Logged
Message: I am doing an electrical engineering design project which requires using a laminated windshield. I was wondering if anybody knew where to get a piece of laminated glass to simulate a windshield or even a cheap, small, and laminated windshield from a Jeep Wrangler. There aren't many junkyards in my area. I was thinking about using an extra window I had from my Dakota, but I am pretty sure that the side windows of our Daks are tempered, not laminated. Also, I found these cheap windshields and was wondering if anybody knew if they would be laminated.

Message: If you know all of the jeeps have laminated glass, you could use car-parts.com and get a salvage yard to mail you one, but might cost you some.

Message: I'm not sure all the Jeeps have laminated glass, I'm assuming that the newer models do because they are pretty much now a safety standard.

Message: Larger glass shops should be able to make it any size you want. I'm a carpenter at a "reform" school, we get glass like that to replace what's punched out in the fire doors. Laminated with plastic in the middle, cracks but stays intact when hit. You're right, windshields are laminated, side glass is tempered.

Message: All windshields have been laminated glass for years. Doesn't matter make or model. All other glass in your car is tempered safety glass. Kowalski is right however, you'll probably be better off getting it from your local glass company. I do commercial glass for a living and any shop can get you whatever size you want from 1"x1" to 84"x130". You can get larger than that (don't know why you would need to) but it would be a special order and high dollar.

Message: Do you live so far out in the boonies that there are no salvage yards within 30 or 40 miles? If that is the case, then I'm sure one of your neighbors has some old cars sitting in his yard you could bum a windshield off of.

Message: Go to any auto glass shop and ask for a piece of laminated flat glass, It comes in all kinds of sizes and can be cut to size.
It is used for back hoes and other machinery.
Ask for (AS1)it is DOT approved just like a windshield.
Also very inexpensive.
I am an autoglass wharehouse manager I sell lots of it.

Message: Thanks a lot to those who responded. I found a glass shop that cut me a piece of safety laminated glass in an hour.
