Subject: Viper electric fan wiring help? IP: Logged
Message: I decided to use a pre packed wiring harness for my Viper Install (Hayden #3647). This kit features the abilty to control two fans (optional and requires an additional relay) and it has a wire that turns the fan on when the A/C clutch is activated.
I spent most of the day removing the old fan and modifying the viper to fit in my 2001 5.9 Dak.
I followed the wiring instructions and everything seemd to wire up fine except... everytime the fan control sends an electric current to the fan it blows the in line fuse.
I am assumming that the three wires coming off of the Viper are 1: hot wire high speed (brown with orange stripe) 2: hot wire low speed ( brown wire with yellow stripe) and 3: ground wire (black solid). Can someone please verify this?
I have disconnected what I think is the ground wire (black wire with no markings). I then connect a hot wire to the brown wire with the orange stripe. When I check the other two wires they both show a 12 volt current
I have used an OHM meter a which shows a completed circuit no matter which combination of the three motor wires I test. I would think that when I tested the two hot wires, there would not be a completed circuit.
I think that if I hook up a good 12 Volt power supply to either one of the high or low speed hot wire. And a good ground to the ground wire, the fan should come on. However, everytime I try to do this it blows a fuse.
I had to quit working on it tonight because of rain. But I will need to fix it tomorrow.
Any suggestions???
Thanks Bill
