As for Dodge being foreign, the US/Canadian parts content is higher on the Dodge than Toyota or Nissan. Also Chrysler uses union labor instead of third world hillbilly labor (Tennessee)

I could be wrong, but I get a sense that, with the exception of a few extreme lemons, the people who do their own repairs are happiest with these trucks. As an example, when I bought mine (@ 47K) one of the first things I did was replace the noisy timing chain/gears with an Edelbrock kit (engine was running fine, but had about 7 degrees of cam slop). 4 hours and $65 later (well, plus $50 for a new water pump - precautionary - plus a few bucks more for assorted hoses and gaskets) I was happy. I can't say I would have been nearly as happy if I had to pay $600-$700 to a shop, AND run a 50/50 chance of having them screw something else up in the process.
Right upper ball joint going south now, so I'll be facing that job soon, but still loving my truck.

01, QC, 4.7, 5spd(the one you shift your self), trailer towing, tire and handling, SLT, yadda, yadda,
~50,000 miles, and loving it!
Original Ball joints, brakes, tires, etc.
Manual tranny replaced under warranty at ~27,000 miles. Awesome truck.

It seems to me that the people who like there Dodges are those with money and buy new ones. I have an 89`dak and I need a new engine. I should have listened to people when they told me to avoid dodge.

DeadDak: Did you read the title to this thread? And yes, you are right; it probably IS Dodge's fault that your beat 15 yr.old truck needs motor work, I'm sure they have serviced it since day one. Not. Never heard of a 15 yr.old Chev/Ford/Toyota needing work.
I don't go out of my way to flame people here, nor do most others, but...

What are you complaining about? It lasted for 15 years, didn't it? That could happen with a vehicle from ANY manufacturer that's 15 years old. How many miles on it? Were you the only owner? What was the maintenance on it?

I love my Dakota 4.7,5 spd manual,3.55 lsd. Run synthetic fluids. 75000 miles and still on the original tires,probably got 10000 more miles on them.No ball joint worries.Only been back to the dealer 3 times for minor recalls.Yeah I love my truck

Mines got 15K miles and about 50% is gone. But I drive the mountain curves pretty fast too. That seems to kill tires fast. Plus mines a 4X4.

I love Dodge Trucks Especially the Dakota, I am currently fixing up my 94 Dakota Sport Ext Cab. 185000+ miles and still in great condition. New motor and Rearend installed plus more to come.

i like my truck love is to much of a work , for i have put some $ into it ball jionts at 47000 so far thats it, but i like the size of the truck it anit to big or to small like a s-10 or ranger where your elbow hits the guy next to you.

I enjoy my '01 RC 4.7 5-spd 3:92 every day; 30K mi./year, 75K total. The '92 RC 5.2 3:55 had 217K on the original drivetrain when I got the '01. The only problems with the '01 were a rear pinion seal and the upper control arm puncturing a brake line. 17.5 mpg: having fun; 19.5 mpg: behaving; cake and eat it, too. What the heck is "third world hillybilly labor", forbobjones? That's as twisted as Smoky Mountain Taffy.

I'm probably the only owner of the 2.5L that loves his truck, but I do. 57,000 miles or so, and not one problem with the engine or tranny. However my heater core just sprung a really nast leak. But I still love it, and it's still under warranty.

I ran into something cool this afternoon at work that gives all us Dakota owners hope. I was working at a clients house and a courier drove up to deliver a package. He was driving a 1998 v6 dakota. He complimented me on my truck and remarked about how he really liked the dakota. He said he has 379,000 miles on his truck and only minor tuneups and oil changes. I could hardly believe it and he showed me the odometer. Lets hope we all get that good luck. I am only at 71,000 miles.
