If the dealer is offering $3500, that means you could probably get $5000 for it if you sell it. Either that, or they are paying what it's actually worth and not discounting the sale of the new one as much as they can. Deal on the selling price of the truck and get it as low as you can, then introduce the trade-in. When they ask if you have a trade-in say no. Get the price done on the purchase, then say, "You know, I do have a old truck that I was going to sell myself, but I changed my mind. I don't want to deal with the hassles of selling it. Let's see what you'll give me for it." Now he's stuck, he can't give on one and make up for it on the other. Never take their first offer, even it's the price you were hoping to get. The first offer is never the top buy price. Just never let them try to combine the two transactions. It's too much for you to concentrate on and you will get confused. Do your research and know what you should be paying and selling for when you walk in. Also, don't be afraid to take notes to the closing table. It will let them know you are an informed buyer.

I did just what you are saying, thanks, first they offered 3000, then i said no i won't buy from that dealer then they will give me 3750.
I don't need to bargin on the price of the new one, I get the employee price(gms price)4100 off msrp plus cash back $3750. total was $7850 off msrp befor trade in.
