Subject: Exhaust Question

Message:
Is there any practical (or legal) reasons that exhaust needs to exit out of the side or rear of the vehicle, or can I just weld a muffler right after the cat and have it exit basically underneath the vehicle. Thanks.

It's a little quieter in the cab if the tail pipe exits behind the axle. That's about it. In non-pick ups, you would get a lot of exhaust gases in the passenger compartment. But as long as the pipe is well behind the rear of the cab it shouldn't be an issue.

Exhaust gas is very corrosive, and will dry rot rubber parts.
