A truck with 240 hp & 275 lbft of torque out of a high tech motor, and five speed manual tranny. In a truck that's the same size as our Daks.
Oh and I almost forgot....Toyota quality!!!
I'll be test driving this as soon as it hits the lot.

Message: Demon,
Do the math dude, 3300lb truck w/240hp= 13.75lb/hp
That's in extended cab form. The reg cab weighs only 3000lb for 12.5lb/hp
A RC Dak 4.7L 5spd weighs 3700lb. With 230hp
that's 16lb/hp. Even with the HO engine you still have 14lb/hp. That's with a Reg. Cab Dakota. You have an X-cab. With the HO engine you still have over 15lb/hp to propel you forward.
To top it off, you can get the 7th jet performance upgrade for the Toyota that adds another 25hp. 3000lb/265hp= 11.3lb/hp. A Ford Lighting pushes 11.5lb/hp.
An X-cab Dakota would have to make more than 320HP to equal the 2005-X with the optional 7th jet installed.

Message: They are also making a supercharged version of the truck that is said to take it from 0-60 over a second faster and the normal X-runner will do it in about seven so there isn't a stock dakota that could compare with the supercharger X-runner. This info was given at the Chicago Auto Show.

Message: Don't forget that the new X-runner is going to be bigger, which means it is going to be heavier. Don't expect this thing to tip the scales at 3300lbs, more like 3800lbs. Look what happened to the Frontier when they made it bigger, about 500 more pounds!
For those of you who agrue stock times, last time I checked no one cares if your stock or not when you race at the track! If you lose to a 9, 10, 11, 12, 13... second car or truck then you got beat, NO EXCUSES! The people who argue stock times are usually the ones getting spanked at the track and crying about it. Besides, who keeps their car or truck stock? Not many!
WipLash,
I can appreciate the numbers, but they do not account for the different power bands. As you know, engines with the same hp output can have completely different powerbands, which means that one engine can beat the other even though their max hp outputs are the same. The toy looks ok on paper but with the extra engine and low torque numbers, it will probably require a supercharger to get it into the 14s. The current supercharged S-runner which weighs less than the future X and puts out more power only hits mid 14s(on average).
I predict that the new X will not be much faster than the current S because of the extra weight. And the new X will still be slower than the current Lightning and naturally aspirated modified R/Ts. But hey, I welcome the new X, the more sport trucks at the track the better! The sport truck scene at the track compared cars is very one sided. Just my .02

But, until I do pull the triger on whatever I buy, I will still love my Dak.

Message: Open minded, huh? If you think this thing isn't fugly and the 05 Dakota is, then you have no taste. Your truck is 5 years old and it needs to be replaced?
Maybe you could pull the triger(sic and by(sic) that monstrosity but I bet soon after you do you'll be pulling another trigger.
You've never seen an 05 Dakota except for pictures. I love these clowns who (1) claim to be open minded then rail against something and say they hate it and, (2) come to a Dodge Dakota website and flame the home team.
Darryl, just go away and buy your Toy truck and have a nice life, after you get one.

Message: Deepdak,
I have not seen the specs as far as weight is concerned. It looks like a dressed up Tacoma and the Xcab V6 Tacoma only weighs 3300lbs. You can get the SC installed at the dealership on the V6 Tacoma. Add the 7th jet and you have a 265hp/3300lb truck. If the X weighs more than that, then that's dissapointing. Mid 14's isn't too shabby. That's all the 1999 Lightning would do. It's faster than a R/T.

Message: well,i love my truck 02 cc R/T,but i havent really been a huge fan of dodge, except for the muscle cars.i am a huge fan of toyota.my parents have driven them forever and right now have an 02 and 03 tundra.they have never ever had any kind of problem whatsoever.definately a superior brand.
this new x-runner looks pretty good, nothing an after market grille couldnt fix.and i dont imagine them weighing anymore than tacomas, because thats exactly what that thing is!everyone rips everyone off,but take a look at an 04 x-cab tacoma and you can tell that the x-runner is a tacoma.so with the power they are boasting, especially since they are going to come factory supercharged also,me and every other dakota owner, even you super human 4.7 guys, better watch out.i had my dad take a look at it and hes very interested,so maybe i will get to see one first hand.

Message: I hate to see the day that a foreign brand out does the Big 3 in trucks. It looks like that day is very near. It serves the big 3 right. All 3 manufactures have been building crap for years. At least 10 years ago you could still buy a truck cheaper than a car and you didn't expect it to be more reliable than a car. Now a truck cost almost twice what a car does and they don't go a year without something catastrophically failing. IF Dodge, Chevy, and Ford don't get their heads out of their asses quick, Toyota will be the #1 selling truck in America.
OHHHH!! I’m going to hear it now. Before you hammer my ass, just look at what happened to the cars. Ford Taurus was the #1 selling car for nearly 7 years. Toyota now has the thrown as the #1 selling car with the Camry. It wasn't hard for Toyota to do. The Taurus was a major P.O.S.!!! It didn't take much for them to make a car that would rise to the top in everything except performance. Now they are going to do the same thing with the trucks.

Message: Well said WipLash.
I am almost 40 and have had alot of cars and trucks in my driving life (most Chrysler products). And after my last experience with an american sedan (300 M), my wife now drives a Honda Accord.
And what pisses me off most is, I know we can build BETTER stuff than anybody if we want to.
So far my Dakota has been the best Chrysler product I have had. But it is not without its faults. And I am now in the frame of mind that I don't have to settle for ANY faults on any of my future vehicles!
