 Subject: Rear Bumper Ruined

Hi Guys,
I just did a dumb thing. I was leaving work and backed up into a pole. From the looks of it the bumper is ruined, but fortunately it looks like only the bumper is ruined.
My questions to you guys are" Do you know how much a new bumper will cost? Do you recommend taking it to a body shop or to the dealership?

Some of the aftermarket diamondplate bumpers look good. They are more stout then the OEM (usually carry a 3500lb tow rating), and are cheaper then OEM.
Worth a look at least.

I got a quote today. The OEM bumper is $542.00 from a body shop. I called a dealership, and surprise surprise they wanted $642.00 for the same bumper. Boy, Dealerships like to rip people off. Anyway, I have an SLT model so I'm still looking around. It is a crome bumper.
About the question for the two lower panels, the right one was bent in along with the bumper. According to the body shop guy, they can't take them off without damaging the tabs that hold them in place. The good news is that they are sold as part of a new bumper.
Anyway, thanks for everyone's help. If you come across one let me know.

Have read any of the replies? There's like 5 people trying to sell you their bumper! I'm sure any of them will sell it for less than $540.00. They are very easy to swap out. Don't put a diamond plate on there! Those things are bumb-f@ck-ugly!

LOL. You guys crack me up. Yeah, I read the replies. I contacted the one guy with the 99 bumper. I don't know if it is the same part so we'll see what happens. Everyone else is selling every color bumper of the rainbow except for chrome. BTW, I kept typing "crome". I knew it didn't look right.
I'm looking around still.

Oh yeah, I'm driving a silver dakota. Boy, I love her. I hate looking at her during the winter though. The snow and salt makes her look like my ex without her makeup. ;) J/K
