Subject: $1800.00 gear swap IP: Logged
Message: Just got quote parts and labor for $1800.00 to swap to 4.10 gears front/rear, add limited slip in rear and bearing kits for both. The rear is OEM for $360.00, $200.00 limited slip, $75.00 rear bearing kit, $225.00 front, $135.00 front bearing, $775.00 labor. This seems high, what do you guys think and any suggestions for lower price aside from doing it myself.thanks

Message: Seems high to me but not in any one specific spot. I'm thinking standard shop markup on the parts vs. if you bought them yourself and perhaps a bit high on labor (at least for my area) but not way out of control.

if you are getting a rear OEM limited slip for $360, you are getting your butt plugged. Go to www.4wheelparts.com and give em a call and ask for a Dana Trac Lok for your truck. Last i had seen they were between $153-174 depending on model. (gotta give em a call... not listed on their site)

We all kind of got stuck a little at the Dunes this last weekend. (Dumb ass family wanted to park right NEXT to the dunes where it was SoFT and we were pulling trailers!) In 4WD I was spinning the wheels.

getting 3" bl and add-a-leaf today. Im goind to put on either 285 or 295 7rR16's BFG ( whatever will fit) and not sure of rims probably 16X8. havent had luck finding a mech for side work in Minnesota yet. It would be nice to get my labor down to $500 or even 600. Any else use Randys ring and pinion gears. I also heard that aftermarket gears make noise

Message: Got 3"bl and rear add-a leaf today, looks great. Now for gears wheels and tires. I know everyone asks about tires and I searched here a lot but could find my application. Anyone have 295/75/16 with 3"bl? do they work? Does a 16X8 with 4.5 or 5 BS wheel help? I may crank my torsion bars a little. The passenger side rear looks lower still So I either have to uo front that side or lower front driver. After this gears tires and wheels Im done (unless its like tattoos where you just keep getting more)
