Subject: Dumb Diff ratio question IP: Logged
Message: So I'm thinking about ditching my 3.55's (4x4). Since I need to do both, the cost is gunna be high. I picked a tire and gear combo that will give me what I want and I ended up deciding on 4.10:1 gearing. To save money, is there any way to just replace either the ring or pinion gear and get what I want (or close)?
I've done this on a shaft driven motorcycle to get a custom ratio, but I don't know if this is workable on my dak.
FWIW, I have a 99 CC v8 4x4 with 3.55lsd Corporate 8.25" rear.
TIA,
Wal

Message: Not possible....ring and pinion must be changed together..check National Drivetrain's 4x4 combo kits, I paid $425 for F+R ring/pinions with master install kits...

Message: Very cool info, thanks!
I see by your pic that you have lifted yours. The reason I am trying to price out 4.10's is because I am looking to go to a 33x10.5x15 and a 2" body lift; (99 CC v8 4x4). I can't afford it yet, so I am doing planning, totals, and budgeting :-) I don't think the 33's should rub anywhere? They are just 2" taller then my stock tires and the same width. The 2" body lift would take care of the height. The 4.10 would take care of the gear change :-) Thoughts?
TNX!
