Subject: Why do they call it a Dakota Sport? IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering why they call some Dakotas a sport. I was looking all around and have found nothing about it. Is it the suspension or the body of it that looks different. I seen them in 2WD and 4WD. I still cant find anything out. any info would be appreciated. thanks

Message: It's an option package like SXT, SLT or SLT Plus, R/T. The option packages kind of go like this from best to worst.
R/T (5.9 V8)
SLT Plus (dont know engine options)
SLT (V6 or V8)
Sport (V8 only)
SXT (V6 only)
The interior and enterior options vary between the models also. SLT nicely equipped power everything, SXT stripped with fender flares and rims, Sport it depends on how the truck was ordered. R/T hauls azz, SXT draggs azz.
Check out Dodges website they have the standard and optional equipment listed for each model.

Where did you get those opinions from.
Some of that is true.
ex. Sport-v8 only? ; R/T-hauls azz?

Message: Don't forget the Sport+ models. Basically an SLT package (depends on what the dealers put on it really), but the Sport+ models have the colored keyed bumpers - that's why I bought mine. Don't like the 'blah' grey ones the SLT's have. You can get a sport with pretty much any motor,,,except the 5.9 I believe. In my opinion it's really just a sticker now-a-days. But in short - 'Sport' doesn't gaurantee you anything. Just a step above the base models.

Message: The Sport package is an appearance package. Body colored grill, and lower 1/2 to the rear bumper instead of chrome and a black front bumper instead of chrome, black mirrors instead of chrome. I'm sure there are some other things that are standard with the SLT that are options on Sport, but mainly it's an appearance thing.

Message: As Chuck Madison used to say... "Penz on..." It depends on what year the truck is as to what features they put on a Sport or Sport Plus.
My 2001 is a Sport Plus...
At the time I ordered it, no chromies on the outside, rocker panels, lower front facia, rear bumper, and grille same as body color with black front bumper. It came with the Tire & Handling package (bigger tires, 5 aluminum rims and rear antisway bar), Lighting package (Fog Lights, internal lighting) and air conditioning.
I think they did away with the alloy spare rim, and now offer the keyless entry system with the Sport (2003 anyway).
So,
'Penz On....

Message: If the Sport Plus now has a chrome grill, then what is the difference between it and the SLT Plus??? I don't see any difference except for the decals.
My SLT+ has black bumpers, not chrome.
And I have never seen chrome mirrors.

what my answer did was demenstrate two things, one:
seven people on here have no idea what the difference between slt and sport is and that
two:
you are a raving lunatic.
As far as the answer being useless it totaly was not as it told B to ignore all the other answers that came before Timberwolf as he was THE ONLY ONE that got it right. All your moronic flame did was indicate that you have no knowledge of the subject either. LMFFAO.

Message: I really wish I would have gotten a better option package then the SXT. The V6 puts me to sleep every time I step on the petal but 230 HP and 250 HP aren't really worth it when you start talking about their mpg. I have to fight just to get good mileage on the six. Having no power what so ever (engine or otherwise) really stinks but its still a great truck nontheless. Looks sharp, runs fantastic, and it sounds good with straight pipes. Hey, it might not go fast but atleast it looks good going slow :). I got a question for you all, does anyone know if the new dakotas will come with the sunroof option and the option of the CD player w/ Navigation like the ram does?

Message: I asked my dealer about it when I bought my 2003. I was told that the only difference between the SLT+ and the Sport+ was the chrome grill. Why offer two models with such a small difference? I didn't believe him at the time, and I find it even harder to believe now since the 2004 Sport+ also has a chrome grill.
BTW, Timberwolf did not get it right... there are no chrome mirrors or chrome bumpers on ANY of the current models (I'm assuming we are talking about current models).

Message: OMG, 2 useless posts indicating that "YOU" have no clue about the subject.
The Sport was available with so many options over the years that it's hard to say what a Sport will have on it. It's up to the dealer or customer to decide what options are on a Sport. I do agree with Timberwolf that "most" Sports come with black bumpers and and painted front facia, grill and rear bumper covers. But, then again I have seen SLT's with painted bumpers and Sports with chrome bumpers and chrome grills.
My 00 Sport came with a chrome grill and bumpers, painted facia and rear bumper covers, PDL, PW and a sliding rear window. Many things that other Sports don't come with.
Dave your right, Penz on, how the truck was ordered and what equipment the dealer put on the truck.
OMG, do you have anything constructive to add this thread or are you just,, as you say,, demonstrating your lack of knowledge. LMFAO back at ya
FLAME AWAY ;)

Message: my 98 had keyless entry, and all power options. I was called a sport plus my neighbor has a 99 that is just a sport with some power options ( windows, locks, mirrors) no a/c no cruise, no tilt, and his has keyless too! I test drove a 2000 that had a keyless remote with it, but when I got to the truck it had manual locks, so I have no idea wtf they had the remote for. It did work the horn with the panic button though.

True, you CAN'T get some things, with some packages, when ordering them from the factory! It seemed weird to me too, I was like, hey, I'm ordering this, and they said, nope, ain't gonna do it!
For instance, my 01 QC, I wanted, and got, two tone paint. You could not get the sport package, with two tone paint, from the factory, in 2001.
I also wanted fogs, which only came from the factory on the sport package, not the SLT. Now I know there are lot's of SLT's with fogs. But in 2001, if you ordered an SLT, it same with no fogs. My SLT, in early 2001, still has a few extra's, that were discontinued later that year, like the under hood insulation, with the ram head on it.
And has been said, my 01 SLT, does NOT have chrome mirrors, thank g-d.
I only posted this, for those that settle for what's on a dealers lot, and think that's the way they all come.

Message: DA - are you sure your truck wasn't hit and repaired or otherwise modified ? I too have a 2000 sport and from the factory literature for that year, you should not have chrome grille and bumpers with that package. OMG - Looking for info, or just out to trash people ? Why slam people like that who were just trying to help out ? Just makes you look bad, not the others. Guess thats why you didn't use your regular screen name. IMHO
