I just looked at my 2003 catalog that I got at the dealer. It lists all the packages. The only differences listed are:
------
Sport: Black upper and body-color lower front fascia and rear bumper
SLT: Chrome upper and gray lower front fascia and lower bumper
Sport: Body-color grille
SLT: Chrome grille
The "Plus" package adds the same features to each (deluxe convenience & power groups, etc.).

BUT - this does not appear to be accurate either because my 2003 SLT does not have chrome or gray on the bumpers or fascia (it has a black upper rear bumper and the rest of the rear and entire front is painted). And for 2004, the Sport Plus (or maybe the Sport too) have chrome grills. I guess that means the only difference for 2004 is the decals and *possibly* the bumper and fascia.

whateveradvocatemoron, the main difference between the slt and sport "IN THE CURRENT GENERATION TRUCKS" is paint or chrome on certain parts, it is the ONLY DIFFERENCE once again proving you are a complete moron on the subject you know it all idiot. Don't go away mad you little idiot just go away.

the current body style slt's you saw, with painted bumpers if indeed you have because none exist around where I live, are NOT FACTORY. ask any dealer and they will tell you that But then again you know-it-all and will come back with some idiotic comment saying that the dealer is wrong. Buzz off you little insect.

I did not buy mine off the lot, it was ordered from the factory with the options I wanted. And my bumpers ARE factory painted. Why are you getting your panties in a bundle about it and calling people names?
I was a little surprised when I went to pick it up. It had just been delivered that day and I even asked why there was no chrome on the bumpers (dealer didn't have any idea). I like it better this way though.

OMG, I'll let your comments speak for themselves. Have some respect for others and they might have some respect for you.
Kowalski, when I bought the truck I thought it might have been smacked since it had the chrome. I checked out all the bolts and there wasn't any marks on the frame or panels from the bolts being tightened in different spots, sure sign of a wreck. Also checked for overspray, misaligned panels, paint mismatch and everything checked out OK. Guess I have an Odd one

If you bought your truck used, it's possible that the previous owner stuck a "Sport" decal on an SLT because he thought it would make it look cool. Then again, maybe you just have an odd Sport with chrome on it.

It certainly is possible to see 2004 SLTs with painted -- not chrome -- bumpers. I just bought one... and the dealer had two more Quad Cabs like mine in different colors.
All had two-tone paint and the Tire/Handling Group option. The fender flares and bumpers (front and rear) are painted silver to match the underside of the truck...
This dealer put essentially what is the SLT Plus package together by ordering:
-- Tire/Handling package (which added 265 tires also, while SLT Plus gives your 245s)
-- Power Convenience Group
-- Deluxe Convenience Group
-- Front Floor Mats
-- Fog Lights
-- Bodyside Molding
-- Single CD Radio
Each of the three trucks I looked at also had:
-- Two-tone paint
-- Heavy-duty service package
-- Sliding rear window
-- Front bench seat

Just when you start to think you have it figured out... I have also seen two-tone SLTs that had chrome bumpers.

I think -- not sure -- that it's the two-tones ordered with the SLT Plus package that have the chrome bumpers -- at least in 2004 models.
I've seen those too, but every one of them had been ordered as a "Plus"...
