Subject: 4WD Indicator Light IP: Logged
Message: I recently purchased a 98 Dakota 4x4. The 4WD indicator light (on the floor console) doesn't light up when I put the truck in 4WD, however 4WD does work. No other indicator lights seem to malfunction. I've checked the lamp, and it is still good, but get no power to the socket when I test it. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Message: Hi DougK
I just fixed mine. The switch on the transfer case was bad. I have a 1998 V6 4x4 with the NV231 Transfer case. I got it off with a 23MM offset box end wrench but there is not much room to wrench it off.
Good Luck.

Message: I'll have to give that a try, do you have a part number or anything for the sensor? Is it expensive? Lastly, where is the sensor located? Sorry for so many questions, but this is my first 4WD vehicle. Also, is there any reason for this switch aside from the light?

Message: Hi Doug
The part was only $21 at the dealer. I don't have the part number but if you look in the glove box, you should see what transfer case you have.
If your washer low lamp works, then the fuse to the 4x4 Part time lamp is ok.
The switch is located just behind the drivers side under the truck and just to the left towards the top of the T-case. You will see the wire and connector going to it.
Hope that helps.
