Message: Well, get what you want.
I'd start with the 4.7, 5apd manual, LSD, trailer towing, SLT, rear slider window, for openers.

Message: depending on what year, I would look for the 9 1/4 rear, its just a bit stronger in my opinion. also i think the first year the QC was out ( 00' I think) the dana 35 was still in the front end, there are more gear ratios for this than the 8" in later models, but the 8" is a bit stronger. I have the front bench in my truck and i think its nicer than the buckets, other than that there isnt much other than the LS that doesnt come with every QC. hope this helps and is not just rambling.

Message: The Sport Plus or the SLT Plus (chrome bumpers and grill) both of these will have the auxiliary driving lights. Get and only get the 4.7 with 9 1/4 rear end with 3:55 gears for better mileage. Automatic or manual is your choice. If it already has the tow pkg (tranny cooler with hitch)would be a plus too.

Message: Thanks guys it really helps. Im not sure what the auxiliary driving lights are? I dont like the looks of the chrome bumpers and grills though. I cant decide on the front seat. I like the bench seat also because of the extra space in the middle for my girl to get close :-)

Message: Driving lights are sometimes incorrectly refered to as fog lights which are located on the valance (sp). Yeah, the bench seat with the fold up arm rest is cool. The Sport or Sport Plus sounds like what you would like to get if you want the non chromed grill and bumpers. Enjoy!

Message: I didnt know that about the sport having the non chrome grill and the slt having it. I just figured they both did. Thanks that really helps out. Is there any options on the inside that I should really make sure that it has? Thanks again.

Message: The standard ABS is rear only, not front. The rear tires are the ones you REALLY don't want locking up. Get the four wheel ABS if you can.
Overhead console with compass is another nice touch, especially if you are directionally challenged like me.
The only difference between the sport and the SLT is the SLT has chrome accents and the sport are color matched.

Message: Back in early 2001, when I ordered my QC, the SLT came and could be ordered with a few more things, more insulation under the hood, two tone paint, etc., I like mine, ......not an issue though.

Message: I didn't like the SLT. The facia color does not match the body color. As for the "chrome", It is on a plastic grille. Ever see the "chrome" on plastic after it has been in the weather a year or two? Have seen many vehicles where the chrome on plastic has cracked and peeled, rolling up as it did so, to expose yellowed plastic under neath. Not a pretty sight! I got the 2WD Sport Plus. Mine has the 4.7L, air conditioning, tilt wheel, cruise control, heavy duty electrical (136A alternator/790 cranking battery), heavy duty cooling (power steeing fluid cooler), towing package, 3.55 limited slip 9-1/4" differential, bench seat (two buckets with small jump seat rather than console between them), fog lights. I did not want a sliding rear window that would rattle with age and possibly leak.
I did get the tire and handling package, and if I was to do it all over again would have forgone that and put a heavier aftermarket rear antisway bar in myslef. The T&H tires are an odd size and the extra mass most likely hurts gas mileage and cause faster suspension wear due to the greater sprung weight.
I bought 2WD as the last 4WD drive vehicle I had I used it only twice in the 5 years I owned it. I get better mileage with 2WD, it gets 19MPG consistently in the Sierra foothills and have gotten up to 23MPG on the highway on level ground.
If you do get the 4WD, try to avoid the full-time transfer case unless you don't mind getting 12-13MPG.
Does that help?

Message: this maybe more useful for your dealer pal @ the auction than you, but if you didn't know, on the inside of the glove box lid is all the info about the drivetrain-gear ratio, anti-spin (LSD), maybe the ABS info. I would also recommend the Full/All wheel drive option, especially if you get rain/snow/slick roads often. I've had 2 QC's one w/and the other w/out and prefer AWD (even though I'd like to be able to lay a patch for fun on occasion).

Message: Not sure if I'd go with the ABS. Seems like mine is always going off when I brake a lil hard but not going ape with it. Also, I drive allot of country roads and I think ABS is not any good on gravel/sand/dirt. I seem to remember a report on tv where they did some tests on gravel and found that you could stop faster on it without ABS.

Message: If you really want a Great Dakota you might want to skip back to '95. I curently own a '94 SLT modle with a very reliable motor (318 Magnum) probably the best V8 Chrysler has ever built. My truck is a 4x4, 3.55 rear gears, 46RH Auto (the last year for the H modle) trans. I really perfer the NV-3500 because the gear ratios are just to tall for that type motor. If you going to tow its does make a world of deffence including off road driving.
But if you insist on getting a Newer modle such as a cad Cab. You might like the older 01 or 02 pakage. Back then you could get a 360 magnum with a great towing package. I don't think the Dakota came with a SLT Plus like the Durango did but check and see. I think the Axel was a 9.5 " corp with the 5.9 powertrain.
But if again if you want a truck for towing the Club cab would be you best buy.

Message: I was weary of the AWD, but I'm glad I got it. It's very sure-footed for winter and dirt road driving. Even moreso than 4wd locked in (doesn't give ya the front end push and bind). The gas mileage isn't any different between the AWD and 4WD (part-time) cuz you're still turning all the parts (axle shafts, front driveshaft, etc) in the part-time, since the DAK's don't have lock-in/lock-out hubs; only the xfer case engages ... the 'hubs' are always locked in. I get around 21 on the freeway at ~70 mph, 18 on rural hiways, and 14 in the city in my '02 QC 4.7L Auto AWD w/ 3.92 LS rearend. Hope this helps.

Message: One option that I regretfully did not get on my Quad Cab was power door locks. It's a major pain in the butt that I'm going to remedy in the near future. If and when your going to make full use of the four doors by loading people or small packages into the back seat or passenger door it's a pain having to go around and unlock all the doors manually either by going in the drivers door and reaching across to unlock the doors or by unlocking and opening each individual door.Trust me on this one.....GET POWER DOOR LOCKS...
