Subject: Help with manual door lock assembly
IP: Logged

Message:
Ok so as a last resort I came here to see if anybody can help me with the problem it is a 98 dakota with no power options and to make the long story short the keys were left in side and a coat hanger was used to open it but in the process a little wire that conects the key hole with the lock fell off and after trying many ways of putting it on it doesnt seem to work and i was wondering if anybody has a picture of how it should go or a diagram.
Any info would be great
Thanks

It has had it for a while but it was never taken care of because it was never opened through the outside.
But thanks for the suggestion

Is it a wire or a rod? All lock mechanisims in the Daks are usually rods that are inserted into a hole then the keeper slides over and snaps in. What's the problem, you can't find the hole, or what?

It is a rod but it seems to have many bends to it and it seems like it just snaps in place there are no holes for it to go before snaping, i have tried snaping the ends in and i thought that would do the trick but it doesnt because i still cant unlock it with the key it seems like it has to go in a certain position i cant figure out. I feel like a child doing a puzzle and it just cant find how it goes.

Check out the "paint your door handles" on the home page here. I think it's still there. It shows ya how to take all the door handles apart to paint them and maybe you could seee something there that your not doing?????

Check to see if the clip is worn I went through the same thing with a 90 Dakota and went to the junk yard and got the whole lock. Plus check in the Chiltons manual it will show you,
