Subject: new shock ride report IP: Logged
Message: A few weeks back I posted a question about what was recommended by Dakota pilots as to what they would recommend for shocks for my 01 2x4 ext cab dak 4.7 auto. the specific problem was while towing, especially on an uneven county road, the ride was very harsh. when the trailer went over an uneven surface (it didn't matter what the depth or height of the uneven part) you felt it in your seat. Certain roads were just a bitch to travel down as they were harsh. I installed a set of Edelbroack IAS's on the truck and have about 200 miles total with 100 miles of that pulling the trailer. The results were noticeable. the same roads are no longer something to cringe about. The trip home I was bs'ing with a friend and I didn't realize I had passed the bad road section until I got home. Bfore I was changing lanes the entire 10 miles (of bad road)trying to find the smooth line through it. So, it seems that the new shocks do a good job of handling the loads transferred from the trailer. without the trailer, the gains weren't as readily noticeable but still a step up. I would describe the new ride as firm yet comfortable. The old ride was harsh (when towing) and busy (all the time) where you felt every bump in your seat (not bad, just annoying).
I would grade these shocks as good but I was looking for an even smoother ride. All in all, I won't excercise my option of the 30 day money back guarantee from Edelbrock.
