Subject: '02 Auto trans problem?
IP: Logged

Message:
My recently purchased '02 QC, w/ 4.7 & auto may have a transmission problem. At low to medium speeds (especially noticeable at about 40-45 mph) I feel a pulsation or slight bucking. Gets worse under load (i.e. slight acceleration or going uphill). Problem is more noticeable after warm-up. Using the O/D off button helps, but does not eliminate. Other symptoms include an occasional buck at high speeds or when idling in drive - it feels like a shift but it's not. I still have some warranty (28000 miles) but I want to be able to speak intelligently to the dealer. Anyone have any experience on this? Love the truck (other than this) so far.

The problem I have with my truck is: In cruise control the lock-up will disengage and the RPMs will go up about 300. When I did a search I found out that it is my TPS. Since I don't use cruise that much I have not replaced it. Hope that helps.

daveo76 - TPS is the throttle position sensor on the throttle body in case you didn't know. I too was thinking this might be more of a motor problem than a tranny issue. Make sure you get the problem documented while you're still under warranty.

Thanks for the advice on the TPS. I'll describe the problem and mention the TPS next time I bring it in to the dealer for service. Will it show a trouble code if this is the problem?
