Subject: 97 Dakota won't start IP: Logged
Message: A week ago I replaced the original battery because it finally failed. A few days after replacing the battery the truck wouldn't start. Initially determined that there was no spark out of the sparkplugs. Then checked that there is no charge coming out of the coil. Tested the coil with an ohm meter and seems to be working fine. I'm stuck beyond that.
I read that resetting the computer might work, but I tried and it did not work. I also tried to find the engine codes through the odometer check, but that gave no information.
Any one have a similar experience? Any thoughts? Thanks

Message: check the battery voltage output. what is it?
also, the alternator may have failed and that's why the 1st battery failed. if the alternator can't recharge the battery you'll get the situation you describe. dead battery. new battery works a day or so, then dead battery again.
also check the battery temp sensor at the bottom of the battery tray. this is used by the computer to control the charge current from the alternator to the battery. i changed the sensor when i replaced the battery in my '97 last spring.
