I'm thinking of getting a 98 Dakota Sport. It has the 5.2L and is fully loaded. I was originally thinking of going with the V6. But this one is such a good deal that I am thinking of going with the V8. Which is better V6 or V8? Thanks.

if u want power, anyone would take the 318 over a V6. The V6 should be better on gas. If you want a V8 that gets gas mileage close to the V6, get the 4.7L. But it is only on 2000 and newer models.
Give some info on the truck and the price they want.

I bought a 99 dakota sport 5.2L last march and love it. Don't pay more than book price. Also figure on spending $700 to have the ball joints replaced.

They look great, ride good, plenty of room...BUT, be very careful, have a mechanic check it out first! Check for oil sludge, cause this is a big problem with late model Dodge's. Oil pressure goes to ZERO cause oil pump pickup screen gets plugged by the sludge buildup. Do take the time to look at CARSURVEY.com...click on 1998-1999 Dakota and read the complaints in the review section. You'll be shocked!
And if you need ball joints...well, at least they are available for a 98'. Your out of luck though if you have a 2000 model or later. None are available from aftermarket vendors unless you buy it from the Dodge dealer as an upper control arm assembly. Upper ball joints are failure prone on these vehicles and the job will run 500 to 700 with wheel alignment. Good Luck!

Just took it for a test drive and it drives very smoothly.
Here's the details:
98 Dakota club cab
air, tilt, cruise, pwr windows/locks/mirrors
red sprayed in boxliner
cd w/infinity speakers
aluminum rims
5.2L V8 automatic
97,000 kms
very clean truck
Price: $10,900 Canadian
Keep in mind I am in Canada. What do you guys think? Is it a good deal? Is there anything I need to look out for? I was thinking of getting an inspection to be safe, but let me know any other ideas you have. Thanks.
