Subject: SPAM from Chrylser on their ball joints? IP: Logged
Message: I have attached a copy of a email message sent to me by Chrysler.
Here is the position Dodge is taking on their ball-joints and us replacing them with something other than their "Dodge quality OEM parts."
I find this simply amusing.
I think they are telling me I have the right to be involved in a collision as long as I use their faulty OEM ball-joints or that their ball-joints are the 5th of the five parts:
In the unfortunate event that you're involved in an accident,
it's important to be aware of your rights...
• The California Department of Consumers Affairs, Bureau of Automotive Repair, published a study in January 2003, stating that: "4 out of the 5 non-OEM aftermarket crash parts were inferior to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Parts installed on the vehicle."
• You have the right to insist that your vehicle be repaired using OEM parts, a.k.a.: Dodge Collision Repair Parts by Mopar
• You also have the right to decide where your vehicle is repaired
Read more at www.mopar.com/dodgequality to learn how using Mopar Collision Repair Parts can ensure that your Dodge vehicle meets or exceeds the rigorous standards it did when it was new - standards for safety, fit and finish, materials, coatings, glass and more.
For even more information about keeping your vehicle in "like-new" condition with Mopar Repair Parts, ask your dealer.

Message: Dave,
I'm very surprised that DC gave out such information. I know Dodge has been doing this for years. I usually find out from the manufactures of the parts and not Dodge because Dodge doesn't want people to know that they are the reason there are no after market parts available.
What's really funny about this is that Moog is an OEM supplier for Dodge. The story they gave you is a cover up. They are blowing smoke up your ass. The real reason they don't want you buying the ball joint from Moog is because they have a huge inventory of control arms sitting on the shelf at all their warehouses and dealerships that they can't sell now. Moog is undercutting Dodge. Since Moog is an OEM supplier for Dodge, Dodge can manipulate Moog into not selling anymore ball joints. I'm sure Dodge told Moog that if they sold another ball joint seperate from the control arm that they would drop them as an OEM supplier. They will never tell you that. It's called politics.

Message: I think you missed the point. They're not referring to ball joints at all but to body parts. Most body shops try to use cheap after market body parts that are just knocked off in HongKong rather than OEM parts. Of course the OEM parts are better than the chink knock off parts and they cost more. The body parts use the cheap parts, charge your insurance for the OEM and pocket the difference.
I don't know where you got the idea they were referring to ball joints. I guess with all the hysteria and paranoia regarding ball joints you just had to type something.
Well, you're 15 minutes end now.

Message: If they are only referencing body parts, why was SAFETY their first reason for using OEM parts? It's not going to affect safety if the front fender is from China. I did have a ball joint from AutoZone made in China that snapped in half 300 miles after I installed it on my Dodge Shadow. The original had lasted 180,000 miles. That is a safety issue.
When he emailed Chrysler he was referencing BALL JOINTS. That was their response to his BALL JOINT question. They are buisy people. They have one or two generic answers they use for a multitude of different questions. They do a "copy" and "paste".

Message: I may be mistaken but I could have sworn I read on the NHTSA web page that Chrysler itself revised the repair procedure not too long ago so that it doesn't have to include the whole control arm.

Message: You guys have it all wrong. This notification was to remind you that when your wheels fall off (from the crappy ball joints) and you crash your truck as a result, you should replace the damaged body panels with quality OEM parts from Dodge.

Message: the saftey part they are refering to is "crash saftey" as in the the crash tests that the insurance companies di th determine your insurance rates. What they mean is some of the aftermarket body parts are made out of inferior materials that crunch up like so much aluminum foil rather then crunch up like steel does, If the part does not resist cruching enough it could cause youe face to slam into the back of a semi trailer rather then miss it by a foot or so, the inferior crash part means you die and the better part means you live. Also I have seen many cars/trucks with after market body panels that rust out in just 3 years or so. I live in the middle of the rust belt and my seven year old Dak has yet to develope a rust spot any where on the Factory parts, as for the aftermarket bumpers on both ends, 2 fender benders on mt fault, on the other guys, both are less then 4 years old and look like crap, all rusty already.
