Subject: Ordered the Yokohamas IP: Logged
Message: I ordered new tires for my 2001 Quad 2WD.
I ordered Yokohama Geolandar HT-S G051 in the stock size of P255/65R16.
The guy ordered them through TireRack and TireRack told him they were on national backorder until mid March.
Hope they are worth the wait. I looked at all the customer surveys for tires in that size and found that the Yokohama's had the highest customer satisfaction per $ (divided the list price by the score of the survey for each tire).
He was honest with me on the Toyo Open Country AT tires. He said they were tread warranted for 50,000 but stated they do not last long, treadwise, up here in the foothills of the Sierras. A friend of mine had bought some of them and did not like them because they were noisey, also.
My stock Good Year Eagle LS tires are real quiet and did well in the snow, but the wet traction was leaving something to be desired. They now have 75,000 miles on them and still are not to the wear bars, but are darn close.

Message: Hopefully, you didn't pay much more than the web price, which is $94 each, plus about $10 per tire shipping (they are $12 each shipped to San Jose). They come from Reno if they have stock there. When they are in stock, I normally get my tires from them in 2 days. In the bay area, shops charge about $15-$20 for mounting/balancing.
I have mixed reviews about Yokos. Everyone has opinions on which is the best tire. Mine is that I am running Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos - whic are fine. I get up to Tahoe City several times a winter, but haven't been up yet this season so I can't tell you about first hand experience, but in the rain, they hold very well. I've tried to kick the back out on cloverleafs, but they held real well and I the speed was such that I wasn't sure I could reel it back in before I ended up off the pavement. My friend has them on his exploder and he's run em up to Kirkwood and S-Ski Ranch and loves em. Again, this is just my opinion.
Good Luck!

Message: Why the heck did DC oopt to put suck an uncommon tire size on the 2-wheel drive dakota's?
My GoodYear eagles are in need of replacement very soon and I dont want to alter the tire sizes at all. So far Ive been quoted over $700 for new Eagles at the stock size 255/65/R-15, and a little over $400 for a set of Pirelli's of the same size...looks like the Dak's gonna get a taste of the Pirelli's soon....
just sucks that we're so limited to tire brands with this odd size tire......

Message: Hey Dave,
I recently got those same tires and let me tell you, they are easily the best tires i've ever ridden on. They are smooth and corner very well (they feel very secure in the rain). Just because of the tires, my Dak rides almost as smooth as my RX300. Almost. The only thing I have to pick about is that they are not very good at stopping in the snow. They tend to cause the brakes to lock up sooner than usual, but then again, I am in New England where the weather gets pretty bad. Overall, it was one of my more satisfying purchases. They are a rare find, I'm lucky to get my hands on some.

Message: They quoted $116.00... I guess that fills the $94.00 + $12.00 shipping... With mounting, tax, disposal fee on old tires, etc... $137.00 each with lifetime free rotations, balancing, flat repair.
If they treat me wrong, I know the owner. My wife has gone to Bible studies his wife had and translated sign language for his daughter at her college counselling appointment.
The tires will be coming from the Reno warehouse.
The Good Year Eagles have not yet reached the wear bars at 75,000 miles... I have been doing 5-tire rotations, so actual mileage must be about 60,000. The wear is getting close and I have the cash at the moment, so is time to buy.
I checked the Bridgestone site and the only tire they have in the stock size are the Winter Dueler with UNI-T... Not sure I want a winter-only tire. Only have to deal with snow maybe 4 times a year, here.
