Amsoil -- oil additives - X-1R
IP: Logged

Message:

Are you asking about X-1R? I don't know much about it. I believe that it is an "extreme pressure" (EP) additive. As you know --- i don't believe in adding aftermarket additives to motor oil. Millions of dollars have gone into R&D to determine the correct balance of additives --- so there is no reason to develop your own "home brew".

Currently of interest is X-1R's latest claim of being NASA approved. In a sense they are telling the truth, one of their products has won an award from the Space Awareness Alliance, however, this product is a lubricant for the Shuttle Crawler called "Crawler Track Lubricant" and not the X-1R oil additive that gets promoted to the automotive public.

I know some race car drivers use it. But let's remember --- they use heavier weight oils --- and they tear down their engines after each race --- if they make it to the end ;-)
