Subject: Dakota or Durango? IP: Logged
Message: I cant decide weather to get a dakota or a durango. If anyone has some suggestions it would greatly help.
Im thinking of a
2002, 4x4, quad cab, 4.7, dakota
or
around a 2000, 4x4, durango.
Would use it for mainly driving to class put I also want one with power. So any ideas would really help. Thanks

Message: I'm a truck guy, I like stiff suspension, and other truck stuff like that. I have never driven a durango, but I assume that they ride nicer, and are quieter inside. It all depends on what you like, I like trucks, the next guy might like suv's.

Message: I've had both. If you need the extra passenger space get the
Durango. I would think it weighs more and would use more
gass. If all you are using it for is driving to class a pickup
would be cheaper, more gas cost effective and I think the
insurance would be cheaper too.

Message: I owned a Mazda minivan once. My most vivid recollections of the SUV experience were hauling the garbage to the dump with it inside with me.
So my wife and I opted for a Quad Cab... Life is good! Bed extender and the Rail 'n Rack system make up for the short bed.
My main worry now is... BALL JOINTS...
Just sneaked the bad fuel pump in under the warranty with 240 miles left on it.

Message: Get the Dak.
#1 - Mark's right, Durango is another 500lbs and will use more gas.
#2 - Durango, like most SUVs, will roll easier in a wreck.
#3 - SUV is the new minivan. They won't be fashionable much longer.
#4 - Better resale value on the Dak due to all of the above.
#5 - Dakotas are just cooler.

Message: Slimy,
Well, you've received some good advice here...I own both the 2000 Durango 4x4 5.9L and a 2001 Quad Cab 2WD 4.7L. Wife likes the leather/Infinity optioned Durango and we both like the looks of the Durango. It is hard on gas and has more road noise with the 4x4 tires than the Dakota 2WD. But it's the vehicle we alway's take our friends out in. Designed for 7 passengers.
My QC truck is the best of all worlds, if you don't need a full 6 foot bed. Designed for 6 people w/split front bench seat, good comfort, quite, roomy, love the 4.7L and "multi-speed" auto trans. I have a hard bed-cover that is lockable and hides any scrapes & scratches you get and keeps the rain out too. With the Quad, small items like grocery bags, dry cleaning, tool box, radio control model boats, all go in back of cab instead of sliding around in the bed area. And of course it's still a great lookin' truck if you need one! I agree that the Quad Cab will hold it's resale value better.
