I like the new looks! They didn't change the look too much. But they don't say anything about the hemi being an engine choice. Maybe they will make a r/t a year or so after it comes out with the hemi in it.

The rumors that I am hearing are that the hemi may make it into the dakota as an SRT model. The time I have heard is the 2006 model year.

I'm wondering about the Getrag 238 manual 6-speed transmission.

Seeing how the NV3500HD in my Quad Cab had to be replaced at 50,000 with input shaft bearing, 3rd and 5th gears in bad shape (according to the dealer).

Yes... What did they do about the ball joints?

I saw the Dakota on the assembly line back in December they were building a pre-production truck. I told everone about it. But was told I was full of crap. But anyway the front suspension still has crappy ungreasable ball joints but it is a totally new front end. On the 4X4 the front end is coilsprings over the shocks and has upper and lower a-arms.

This sucks

According to that info there isn't going to be a sport model or a regular cab model. This ROYALY sucks!!!!! I was planning on buying a 05 RC sport with the 5spd 4.7 but looks like those plans have gone by the waste side. What the hell are they thinking?!!!!!!!. Damnit!!!!!!!

I'm going to check into this and find out for sure. If this is true I'm going to go ahead and order me an 04 RC sport 5spd 4.7 2wd 3.92 Dak before it's too late. This pisses me off!!!!

I'm going to go talk to some dealerships and see if they have any info. I'll let you guys know.

I like this quote about the 4.7:

It has more power, faster acceleration, and better gas mileage than the old 360 / 5.9.

But it still has
Rear drums as standard? wtf?

Glad to see they raised the tow capacity rating to something closer to reality (7000 lbs) and added the HO version. That's probably just a PCM change. I hope we can add to the ones we have! I guess I'll have to keep my regular cab. I can't use a long wheel base in my barn or I would have bought a full size in the first place.

When 90% of your sales are club or quad, it is too expensive to make a reg cab for 10% of the buyers.

Yeah if 90% of the sales are non reg cab it makes sense. IT just seems like there are a whole lot of them out there now-and it would be nice to have for lightweight and more speed

One thing I noticed that I didn't like was that they cheaped out on the guages . No more oil pressure or voltmeter , you get gas , temp and a tach and that looks like about all . I want a full set of guages for the thing . I don't want some dummy light telling somethings wrong by then it is too late! The looks aren't bad , though it pretty much looks like the Durango front end . Hopefully they have fixed the balljoint issue , don't know why they think they have to have non greasable joints when the greased versions were much more durable.

I agree with the gauges. The auto companies have been slowly taking the gauges away. I think the only car you can get full gauges in now is a Corvette. I like the full gauges. But if you can save 20 buxs a truck by removing gauges then they will do it.

So will this Getrag 238 adapt to current 4.7L's? I want one. How much torque can it handle? Anyone know?

No gauges? You've got to be joking! It's not a truck with no gauges. When will Dodge ever get their head out of their ass?

I must be gettin old, cause I'd take my 97 dak over the new 05 look anyday. Guess I'm in the minority, cause to me, it looks like a new Durango that had a bad acid trip.

I looked at the article and saw the pictures form Dodges website. I was not to impressed wth the looks. Then I saw the pictures form the Chicago Autoshow and I am really impressed.

Now my compliants.

No HEMI. Wont fit? All I need is a cutting torch and a welding machine.

The OD gear ration for the 6-speed manual tranny is taller than the OD for the automatic? Make that .79 5th gear and give me a real OD gear where I barely turn 2k at 75 mph.

What is up with that front bumper? Is that chrome strip taped on? A sawzall and real metal would fix that problem.

Overall I like it. I might put one in my driveway.

I like it all except for two things. I *hate hate hate* those tail lights. Our Liberty has something similar and they're just dumb looking (to me). I like the headlights being clear and huge, but hate where the radio / temp guages are. I don't like people touching my temp stuff unless *I* tell them they can. It being in the center is just like, "Hey even though I'm freezing b/c I just got back in the truck but you've been here for the entire time, you can control it if you're hot." When in all actuality I would say, "I'm cold. If you don't like it open your window."

Finally I have absolutely NO problem with the Voltage / Oil pressure removals, BUT if I was *really* into doing stuff w/ the truck (I.E.- tricking it out with engine boosters, huge stereos, etc.) then I'd look into getting something other than this truck year. Just my opinions, though ;)

I must have missed something, at least I hope I did. The only manual tranny is the 3.7 v6? All v8 combos are auto only?
