Message: That usually means the valve guides are not sealing properly. If you're burning a lot of oil, I would suggest a valve job. If you're not, I bet you can put it off for a while.

Message: Sounds like the valve stem seals need to be replaced.

Message: On an older engine with many miles, a little bit of white smoke that disappears soon after startup usually isn't a bad thing. What worries me is the speed at which it appears. 2 hours isn't a long time. I think you are starting to see the failure of a head gasket. I don't think I would do anything until it became worse. Just watch it.

Message:
Sounds to me like you need to check the condition of your valve stem seals.
These seals can be replaced without removing the heads by using special tools and a set of new seals.
A friend and I did the complete job for under $50.00

Message: Well it does not do it after it has sat overnight and it only does it occasionally after it has sat about two to three hours. Also it will not do it after only sitting for an hour or so..... If it is valve stem seals is this serious will it effect performance??

Message: Lacent and EBL called it right:
Blue smoke = oil
White smoke = coolant
Best advice:

Is the coolant level droping any ?
Dr. D
p.s.
Sometimes the puff of smoke that you see at start-up may appear to be white but it is really a light blue smoke.

Message: No thankfully the coolant level does not drop any and the only way to see the puff is to twist my arm around and crank the truck while i am faced toward the rear. The puff disappears that quick.

Message: And yes i suppose it is possible that i could be mis identifing the color of the smoke as it was very cloudy to two times i saw it do this.
