Subject: HELP... resetting computer

Message:
How do I reset the computer on my 30k mile '02 4.7/auto CC? The truck needs new spark plugs (btw... are the Autolite 5224s the general consenus for good replacements?) and is running like crap (check engine light has come on).

Once I change the plugs can I just disconnect the battery for a moment to reset/clear the computer, or is there something else I need to do?

Thanks in advance for the help.

what code are you getting?
you can use the 5224's. i'm using bosch plats.
disconnect the batt and turn the key to start and hold for about 30 seconds for reset.
i don't think bad plugs would throw a code though. must be sumthin else.

I had some minor body work done to it and when I went to pick it up it was running like crap. I told the body shop to fix it, so they sent it to a Dodge dealer to diagnose the problem. The service guy at the dealer claims the plugs are so bad (29,600 miles) that they can't diagnose it cuz it keeps giving a misfire code (not sure what the actual code is)... and they want $160 to change the damn plugs so they can contiune "diagnosing" the problem!!!!! I don't think so!!!!

I'm gonna pick it up and change them myself, then reset the computer and see what happens.

I can't imagine what could have happened to it at the body shop that would have caused this (they we repairing my roof where a basketball hoop fell on it and adjusting the grill from some work I had done a couple months ago). Could just be coincidental I guess... we'll see.

Anyway, I know I've read a lot on here about the Autolites vs. the Bosch plats and there are fans in both camps. But I'm looking for longevity (commuter vehicle, I'm not a racer)... and the Autolites seem to offer that (longevity) from what people say on here at least... is this a correct assumption.

Of course, I can always just put the crappy Champions back in it, but that seems silly.

i had a slight ping problem with mine and never have liked Autolite plugs. bought the boschs 1 range colder than stock. the ping is gone. the old champs heat hot spots on the ceramics. change the plugs and see if you get another MIL lite.

to check codes. turn key on-off, on-off, on-off, on. odometer will display codes. or go to your local autozone. it's free.
