Subject: 6 & 1/2 lbs wheel weights! IP: Logged
Message: I just bought four new wheels from a guy on ebay. They are in good shape, but when I put tires on one wheel, they had to use 6 and 1/2 lbs of weights to ballance the wheel. Is there any way to fix this? The tire guys said it could be the rim or it could just be the tire. Should I wait for the next tire set to worry, or should I complain to the seller now.

Message: I work in a tire shop, so maby i can help. it could be the rim or tire or both. tell the installer to spin the rim on the balancer without the tire mounted. look to see if the rim is out of round, and see how much weight the rim takes.
also tell the installer to spin the tire on the rim 180 deg from where it is beaded now. (just this helps a lot, in most cases)
if it balances out dont wory you wont feel a vibration (my friends jeep calls for 6-12oz and he dosent feel anything). but i would put it on the right rear.

Message: ummm...I think he means ounces. if i takes 6 1/2 pounds of weight, check for missing chunks of rim.
