Message: They fold up, not down. I have an 03 quad cab and spent fifteen minutes trying to fold the rear seat down. I felt kinda dumb when I figured it out.

Message: Loosen the jack, it`s opened a tad to hold it in. You should be able to worm it out of there. In the mean time don`t run over any nails. Lets us know how you make out.

Message: the jack is held in with at velcro strap, loosen that and it should wiggle out. Good luck getting it back in there, the hook, is a huge pain getting it reattached. I suggest only using it when you absolutely have to.

That's all I am saying. I also think his statement is constructive.

Message: I dont need to get the jack out but I was looking at it recently and I wondered if the seat folded down and I couldn't see how it would be done and then I looked closer and thought WOW , how the hell does a guy get that jack out if needed , then I thought lets ask all the people at the Dakota forum , maybe they can help , looks like some did . It would have been sweet if the backs folded down , IMO .

Message: The backs fold up, because,
you have a nice semi-flat cargo space,
With the 40-60 split, it's very versatile.
For instance, you can have a passenger, or you can have a child seat in the 40 part, and fold up the 60 side to have all that cargo space.
NOw, if the seat folded DOWN as you'd prefer, what are you going to do, put the stuff on the seat-back, and floor board?
It's an awesome design, maybe you can modify yours, and sacrifice alot of verstility, ?.
As for getting the jack out...........
no, no, I just can't ...........comment.
I made a new years resolution to NOT be so sarcastic here anymore!

Message: has anyone modifiyed the rear seats to fold down they slide on a hook, and the hook could be shortened so when u lift the lower section at a certain point the top section would swing forward ???

Message: I tend to agree with Todd on this one. By folding up it allows MUCH more useful cargo space than had they folded up. The thing I really wish we had was a cargo compartment UNDER the seats like the full size, and even the CC's have. Oh well. But if you really want it to fold up you can check out GraphiteDak's webpage (linked to his sig) and he has a cool pictorial on how to do it...

Message: I think the arrangement of the jack is to prevent people that don't possess the necessary mechanical aptitude from hurting themselves. If ya can't get the jack out, then ya can't have the truck fall off the jack onto your head. It's a safety feature.
Unfortunately, I didn't make the same New Year's resolution about sarcasm.

Message: My 02 didn't have the jackn held down by velcro. These's a nylon insert in the eye of the jack where you'd normally put the handle, it's a handle to turn the jack down. Turn it counterclockwise and the jack will collapse, allowing the jack to be pulled out from the bracket that it's under.

Message: I have an 04 Dakota with a 60/40 back seat. The long section folds easily but I have not been able to fold the short section. I even put it on a list of problems for the local dealer and they said they couldn't fix it. It once had a child seat in it, and I think something has been done to keep it from folding.
