I ment the nitrous coment as a joke be couse I know it still gets to those die hard dodge boy fans of Alderman and Geofrion. Thats all. Me and my friends still bug each other about that being that the guys I hang with have chevys and dodge. We like to bug each other som times. So take it easy pal.
I dond have a scale to wiegh an engine but Im pretty sure the small block chevy dose not weigh 600 lbs. That is the wieght of a big block I beleve.
And a 440 thats .040 over that wiplash posted is not a stroker.
The 451 we built is. 400 block w a 440 crank. That one went high 11s on the moter and low 11s on the bottle in a light weieght 3700 lb plymouth.
Bowtie was right. Die hard mopar guys(not all mopar guys) have the biggest inferiority complex. Every time there is a discution on the hemi not being so great they whine and start talking about super stock wich no one really cares about any more. Ant they love to say how they were baned from nascar, and how the 300 mph top fuel dragsters are rung production hemis and all that crap. The plain and simple truth is that the king on the street is the mouse and rat motor chevys. If you poke around some street racing hang outs you will find in MOST cases the fast guy there is usually in a chevy.

Yeah I dont spell very well when I type. What dows that have to do with any thing. Im not good at typing and I miss the odd leter here and there so what.
Where do you guys get this knocking from. I have worked in a garage for a while now and have never seen a small block with that problem. And all the small block chevys I have had never knocked. At least the ball joints are not coming apart on the chevys.

I do know a guy at a dodge dealership who said that he has seen more than a few hemis coming back with bottom end problems and head and intake gasket problems.

Hey Brian Y, no complex here, just tired of chevy guys giving US crap on OUR site. Mopar guys are always the underdogs, as far as public perception goes, and we are just tired of guys with Novas and chevelles with their mullets telling us that 12 bolts are better than Danas, Rat motors are cheaper, Yada yada yada. Just fed up with hearing people like you ratchet all the time. Oh yeah, 8.664 out of a Super stock Hemi cuda from West Virginia last week in SS/a. But I guess thats not as impressive as your nova and no one really cares about super stock anyway....especially if you drive stove-bolt Chevys......sorry man. Your zl1's are so far back that THEY dont matter. YOU take it easy pal.

there you go again. braging about super stock. 8.66 big deal. There are guys on the street with chevys and fords that run quicker than that. super stock is a joke. They never even made street versions of those 68 69 hemi darts and cudas. Get with the future and stop living in the past man.

You know, thats the difference with dodge and chevy guys. I dont bash dodge aside from a bit of joking around. I didnt come on this forum to bash dodge. I came on here as a dakota owner who is not impressed with the truck I have. I have asked about problems I have with my truck and all I ever get from you guys (there are a few exceptions) is get over it or what did you expect its a truck yada yada yada. And I also here alot of guys talking crap about chevys and alot of it is bull sh*t. Thats why I responded to this post in the first place. Every time I meet the die hard mopar guy he always trys to come up with some reason why chevy sucks and dodge is so great. Inferiority complex. We (the rest of the automotive world) are sick of listening to guys brag about the hemi. If its so great why is dodge the only one building them? And where were they for the last 30 years?

I agree Dr. D...stupid thread. Most of the comments made here are all BS. Every truck and car has it's problem. Who gives a hoot what symbol is on the grill when it rolls into the shop. I bought my Dakota cause I think it's the best looking and has a V8, not because it's "not Chevy."

Zippy, why don't you go pickup this month's issue of Car and Driver. Better yet, just go to CarandDriver.com and you can read the comparisons.
Now, I'm with Bryan, I'm a Dakota owner who has been disappointed with the reliability of the Truck, so I'm not going to defend Dodge's reputation, but what you are saying just isn't true!
The Hemi ram is quicker. After my Dakota, I wouldn't buy one because of my experience with Dodge, but you can't say that a 5.3 Chevy is faster unless it has been modified!

I posted on this thread in defence of the chevy. You start talking about super stock and and old hemis. Just like every other dodge mopar or no car guy out there. It must be in the owners manual some where. I must be missing that page. How am I making you a criminal? Chevy guys get bashed by dodge and ford guys all the time. Most chevy guys dont bash anyone.(except for guys like zippy) I just here the same thing all the time about super stock top fuel and being baned from nascar. Get over that one. Im glad dodge is back in nascar. it makes it more interesting. I hang with street racers that drive chevys dodges and the odd ford is there too. We have had these debates and most agree (yes even the dodge guys) that the hemi of old is a legend motor. They were not that great.
I was expressing my dislike of this board in how I have complained about my R/T and seek advice on how to fix it and it seems like the only answers I get are just defending dodge trucks and not solving anything. And becouse Im not praising the mopar gods I must be a terrorist or somthing. Im sick of hearing that the dodge gets good milage for a truck and what did you expect from a v8. And all that other crap. Chevys and fords do get better gas milage than these things.
1 real good thing about the hemi old and new is you wont burn your hands changing the spark plugs.
Zippy is a dickhead for his original post. But alot of what you guys are saying about chevy just isnt true.
I like all of the big 3 car companies. They all build there junk and all build there good.

You obviously don't have a B1 Big Block. Anybody that owns a B1 Dodge would know that the 454 conversion is not a stroker engine. The stock bore on the 400 block is .040 bigger than a stock 440. The deck height on the 400 block is about 1/4" shorter than the 440. The main journals are about 1/8" smaller on the 400 than the 440. You align bore the 400 block and put the 440 crank in and then you bore the 400 .040" over. When you are through, all you have is a 440 bored 0.080" over. The main advantage to this set up is the 400 block weighs about 50lbs lighter than the 440 block due to the shorter deck height and the thinner casting of block. Also, you run shorter connecting rods like Chevy runs and shorter/lighter pistons. That helps free the bottom end of the engine up and it revs quicker. There's nothing "stroker" about it excpet for the special Ross pistons. The rods are 383 forged. The crank is stock 440-6pak. The heads are 1967 440police-interceptor. Basically a stock motor. Pretty impressive for a 4000lb-daily-driver to run high 13's on pump gas with 9.8:1 compression, automatic, and 3:55posi grip. To top it off, all the vacuum acessories still work (power prakes). Go talk sh!t with some Chevy lover. You might impress them.

I know your still reading this. No body here believes for one second that you bought an R/T just because it "looks cool". No one is dumb enough to blow $4,500.00 extra in cash for an R/T just because it looks cool. If looks is all your after then get a used 1999 4cyl Dakota Sport for $5,000.00 and paint the bumpers. The pick you up some R/T rims on Ebay for around $500.00. Then go buy some R/T stickers to put on..... You bought a 2002 R/T for one reason. In 2002 it was the only normally asperated truck that was a true street rod. Chevy didn't have anything that ran as good or looked as good as the R/T and they still don't. You need to sell your R/T. Your not worthy of such a fine ride. If you really did buy the R/T just for looks you need to have your head examined. There are a lot of better choices you could have made as a good looking truck concerned. The R/T does look good, the $250.00 worth of paint and emblems and the $1000.00 worth of tires isn't worth the $4,500.00 extra you paid. Especially when you start putting gas in the 360. Your the biggest fake I've ever seen. I called your bluff yesterday with the pictures. The fact that you would make a comment like "I bought the R/T because it looks cool" prooves your liar. If your not a liar your very dumn. Dumn people don't have enough money to drop down on 2002 R/T's. That means your a liar. You must be one misserable SOB driving a Dakota R/T when you claim to be a Chevy man. Especially when you could have spent half the money on a 4-banger Dakota. Just think of what you could have done with the extra 10 grand left over. You could have bolted a blower on your Chevy and then you might beat my R/T.

Your pushing this off on everybody else when your the one that said your a Chevy man driving an R/T. I don't know what medication your on, but no die hard Chevy man would ever buy a Dakota R/T. The R/T and the Hemi are the life bloods that keep Mopar enthusiest going. Wiplash If you paid 4500 extra for your R/T then your the idiot. I hagled the price down to where it only cost me an extra 1000 over the 4.7 sport.Hell the R/T option wasnt 4500.
Im Not a chevy die hard. Im a guy who likes them all but I prefer chev. Yaeh a chevy die hard would never buy a dodge.I gave dodge a shot becouse yaeh chevy dosnt build a truck like that. I figured dodge has been in the game so long that would have got there sh*t together by now. I was wrong. Its still a cool truck and it drives great but I didnt get my money worth on it. And I dont think saying that I am not happy with my R/T is bashing them. You just cant handle it thinking that it is so great. I wish I got the 4.7 I probably would like it alot more.
Where do you live wiplash I may just bring my chevy down to your area and show you who is fast.
And just for you I am going to scan some pics. Do you have a page where I can post them?
