Subject: Caliper Pin issue IP: Logged
Message: One of the holes in my mounting bracket for my caliper pins is too large. The person who owned the truck before me broke a pin and then drilled and tapped the hole and put a helie coil in there and I accidentally removed it not realizing what it is. Is there a suitable replacement that I can use in place of the caliper pin that will fit the hone

Message: I just had the same issue this weekend. The treads for the original pin were stripped. I should have just retreaded the hole but i drilled it out, treaded and replaced it with a thicker cast hardened bolt. Got the bolts from a hardware store. They have to be cast hardened. The bolt was to long and not as thick as the regular bolt. So then i had to cut it so it didn't hit the brake pad. The caliper still had a rattle everytime i hit a bump. I then had to put a rubber sleeve on the bolt to stop the rattle. Man i hope this help because i was lost for about a week trying to figure this out. It might take a couple of trips to the hardware store. Get the tap and the screw at the same time and measure the length of the bolt from where the treads stop. compare it to the factory bolt.

Message: Either replace the heli-coil, or bite the bullet and replace the spindle.

Message: Please, for safety's sake, replace the spindle. Brakes are not something you want to screw with. It's not just your life in danger.
