The maint required light is on. Does this take place of the check engine light on this truck? If so how do you get the codes out of it? I did the ignition on off on off on in 5 seconds thing and the light will not flash. I know on a gm this means the computer is not funtioning properly. Any tips? I have pulled codes on chrysler products before and never had this problem. I truck is runnign fine. I went and changed all the burned out bulbs in the instrument cluster and the maint required light happedned to be one of the ones that was burned out. I had no idea it was, so this problem could of been excisting for some time now. Thanks for your help!!

These lights are set to come on after a certain number of hours so you'll take the truck in for a proper fleecing by the dealer. Granted, they also work to warn of problems, but if you're running fine, it's probably one of those scheduled maintenance lights. I learned this when mine lit up at around 60,000 miles. They explained this as I have, and proceeded to tell me that while my truck was running fine, I needed new coolant, thermostat, and an intake cleaning. An intake cleaning? Cost me $60 bucks (10 years ago)just to get the light tuned off. Never again.

My 92 has had the same light on for around 5 years now. Your check engine light is a different light on the left side of the inst. panel.

As the prev. poster said, the light is made to get you to bring your truck into the dealer.

I had a 90 Dakota and the same light came on
around 60k. I took it to a dealer and they wanted
50 bux to shut it off.. I told them I'd break
the bulb before I got raped by them. I then
stopped by a garage and asked them to shut it off.
One of the guys hooked up his handheld computer,
located where to reset the light and didn't even
want to charge me. While the unit was still hooked
up he asked me if I wanted my Dak to run a little
hotter (meaning hot rod) and I told him I was
very happy with the way it was running. After all,
it was only a 3.9 V6.

I thanked him and gave him 10 bux for his trouble
and less than five minutes work.

You might want to use a bit of caution. you could have some bulbs burned out that you didn't know out. I noticed that when I checked my oil I was about 2 qts low;the oil light never came on.

Also I'm sure you side signal flasers are out just like mine.

lol thanks guys. I never saw the check engine light come on, when i turned the key on with engine off, as they normaly do so I was just checking. I did some more searching on the net and found out about it turning itself on at 60k, 85k, and 120k, I am about 130k so thats the problem. I am very good with cars and do lots of mechanical work on the side, just never ran across this one before. So if ya ask me that light is worthless for the most part, where as unlike alot of ppl I know the check engine light is not. Getting back to the oil probelm the last guy talked about, I noticed a very low oil presure reading on my factory gauge, and seeing as it had that many miles on it, I wasnt surprised. Anyhow I put a mechanical gauge on it and come to find out that tired (althought it never seems that way) 3.9 holds between 50 and 75 psi runing down the road hot. I have heard of alot of ppl getting faulse readings from there factory dodge sending unit-gauge. Anyhow I will be checkign in often, I need to keep you guys posted on this thing. First of its getting a retro grabber green paint job flat black hood dul scoops whole nine yards. Then next year or if I get the cash soon enuff its getting a 360 or 400. Anyhow thanks a bunch guys!!!
