Hey all, this is going to be hard to explain but I will give it a shot. My 98 V8 5.2 4wd,98k Dakota is making some wierd squeeky/creaking noises. Seems to happen more in the cold then the warm summer months. I live in MN. It seems to be coming from the center of the truck but sometimes seems to move around. I have not spent alot of time underneath it trying to figure it out, but its now starting to bug me. Sometimes when I get out of the truck it will creak/squeek like my weight has an affect on this noise. I am not a big guy, 5'9 180. Even when I am driving on a fairly smooth side street it will do this. Also it does not do it all the time, some days are worse then others. The thoughts I had are as follows. Shocks, springs that is really it, I have not checked these things, but I thought I would try you guys before I lay underneath the thing with a flash light. Any and all comments are welcome, ya never know with this kind of thing.

Thanks alot!!

No, but I had the tranny fluid changed in the last couple months but this noise has been going on since last winter. How do I check that mount? I am not joe mechanic but I can do most things with the shop manual. So please talk laymans terms!!

I have the same problem, ongoing since last winter dealer vouldn't find the noise. It went away during the summer months. And when the temp got cold again back came the noise. Mine corresponds with the speed, faster i go the faster is the squeak! When I stop the noise goes away, Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me nuts!!!

Also I have the other noise you talk about, when i first put in gear and give the gas she will creak or when i jerk the movement a bit.

I wish i knew the problem, i thought it was 2 probs but maybe its the same thing causing it

OK, I think the noise is my shocks. How hard is it to replace all the shocks? Can I do this myself? This truck has not given me any "real" problems since I bought it new, so I dont have a shop manual yet. Is this pretty straight forward? Do I need special tools?

Thanks

Had the squeaky noises in my 97 Grand Prix. Just needs a grease job. Local mechanics do it for next to nothing if you prefer not to do it yourself.

This sounds like a problem that is coming from the stator harness. It happened on my DAK last year. I replaced the plugs w/ autolites and the noise went away in a matter of days....
just my .02
