Subject: Ball Joint question IP: Logged
Message: I own a 2002 Dodge Dakota with about 19,000 miles. When going over bumps or even pulling into my driveway with a wide turn I hear a noise. Sort of like something popping I guess.
Is the ball joint a possible problem here? It's under warranty so I guess I should have it checked out.

Message: Lewis
A bad ball joint is a strong possibily. My 2001 Dakota had a noise in the front suspension when going over bumps and turns also. I replaced one bad upper ball joint and now the truck runs great. Get it checked, it should be under warranty.

Message: I had the same symptoms. Sharp, left hand turns made a "clunking" noise. I had the ball joints checked on my 2002 quad cab a month ago and they were within specs. The front end started to squeak last week so I took it to the dealer on Monday. Right upper ball joint had failed! Scary since they were fine a few short weeks ago. Keep an eye out. These things can fail in a hurry.

Message: I had the same problem at 31000 miles. My Upper ball joint on the drivers side was bad. 3 months later the upper ball joint on the passenger side was bad. That was at 40000. Try to get them to give you an upgrade and replace both sides at once. The factory ball joints are not going to last.
