Message: Turpentine, kerosene and many of the petroleum based bug and tar removers. I'd keep the knife away from the paint unless you're going to use it to slit your wrists after you use it to scrape up the sheet metal.

Message: I park under a pine tree occaisionally. The best stuff to use (and I have tried the goo-gone, wd40, etc - which work OK) is Rubbing Alcohol. Believe me. After you try it, you will be amazed. Hit the spot with some wax after removing the sap, because the alcohol is a great wax stripper too (thats why they give you those alcohol wipes when you need to stick something to your paint like bed rail protectors, etc)
The Rubbing Alcohol will NOT hurt your paint... good luck

Message: There is also a clay bar you can get at any detail shop, it removes everything from the paint, oxidization, paint overspray, you name it. The reapply some wax to the area, or better yet a good polish.

I've read that baby oil (or mineral oil) takes tree sap off real nice and safe for paint.

Message: You might also go to Autozone and buy their
cheep car cover. Easy to put on, works well,
won't screw up the paint.
I bought one for a older car I cover during the
winter months and store in a barn.. For $40.00,
you can't go wrong.

Message: I have to agree with Radio Man... get a car cover. There are a few nice methods of removing tree sap, but do you really want to have to do it every week? Save your finish, arm muscles and time, and get a car cover.
