NOPE,

Pop off the belt driven fan/clutch, you don't need it, and it costs a little HP.

Just remember, if you do take your clutch fan off,
your engine is gonna run hotter.

You may also void warranty if dealer sees it
while doing any repairs that had anything to do
with overheating.

The elect fan will run anytime air cond is running
of system gets hot enough to turn it on. I believe
it's 200 something degrees.

Radioman,

Unless you sit alot in traffic going less than 20, etc. It can't/and won't run any hotter. After my 180 t-stat install, it actually runs cooler. If you're moving much at all, 20ish, that fan doesn't really do anything at that point.

Even when I don't run my a/c, and sit in traffic and forget to turn it on, (the a/c switch, so the elec runs constantly), it still never gets to half way on the gauge.

Have you done this? I live in a hot climate in SE texas, and have never had a problem, with only pulling the belt clutch/fan, and the 180 t-stat.

As for going to the dealer, MY truck was in under warranty, for a third gear synchronizer that had gone bad, you couldn't shift to third fast at all. The manual obviously, and they agreed, and I had a whole new NV3500 installed, warranty! Now at the time, I had NO belt clutch/fan, and they didn't seem concerned at all, even mentioned it.
NOw I know that all dealers, and service departments are different, that's just my experience.

But, It DOES NOT run any hotter.

But you also installed a 180 t-stat. That would
make a difference I'm sure.

To tell you the truth, I think the air cond.
compressor running during winter months when in
defrost is nuts. I know why *they* say it's set up
to do that and I don't think it does that much
good.

Anyway, I always remove the clutch fuse and the
electric fan relay in the fall. I've never lost a
seal in a compressor (because it sets all winter)
and my defroster *dries* the fog off the
windshield just fine.

I've done this for years in all my cars and trucks
and plan to continue.

Joey v,
I believe the electric fan in part of the heavy duty package.

I do not have the factory towing package but I do have the HD group.

Based on Todd's recomendations I removed my cluch fan last summer. I didn't notice any difference in temp. After about a month of running stock therm. and no cluchfan I installed a Robert Shaw 180 therm. Much cooler temps. I am very pleased with this mod and would recomend it.

BTW I live in Boise Idaho where the winter can go sub 0 very easily and summers are normaly over 100. I have not had any heating problems with the 180 therm in the winter.

good luck.
